As can be seen from the photo the part hanging down is the tensioning strap.
The part at the end of the strap in this photo is the part that connects to the Alternator and has come loose. The Alternator has a threaded hole that the bolt has come out of. The recessed hole, that I mentioned in the previous thread, is for the cap head bolt.

And to answer LuckyP's question there is no support strap at the back of the Alternator to the engine.

However the two brakets look quite substantial. The proof of the pudding is in the testing. Once back together will see if there is any flex in the alternator position as the engine is "blipped"

Wednesday will be back on the road. Fighting fit and ready to tear up the tarmac!!!! The rattle noise seems to have dissapeared. I drove the car the 100yrds round the corner to the garage.

Sorry to hear about your mis-fortune with your engine, and a pox on AS for refusing to accept responsibility. There are a few on here who have built / rebuilt SBC engines in the UK. Maybe they could help you.

Good luck.

p, did you say your engine came from AS with that additional bracket in place? That mod was suggested by someone some time ago, in a previous thread on breaking alternator brackets. AS must realise there is a problem with those brackets if they now fit the additional one as standard!

Exactly Mike!!

Trouble is with their bracket is that isn't adjustable. So as a new belt is heat cycled and stretched, any re-adjustment that is made to the CNC adjuster on the front, means that the angle bracket on the rear is slightlt outta allignment. I'm gonna make a billet slotted ali bracket, that will work with adjustment and look the part in a $13,000 engine!

Aha! May have the answer to why your motor went Banzai P, you need to spend at least DOUBLE that for one that is bullet proof!

Nothing wrong with an engine builder making a good living if his engines hold together!!
Not right if he's making good money whilst his product falls to bits!!

Ooohhh Wayne.... that made me cringe, I hope you were touching wood when you said that....You havn't pointed a gun at your engine yet to find out if it is bullet proof.

Im up in Shanghai for the Grand Prix at the moment and if touching wood really does help protect your engine, I'd be happy to get one (or two?... or three?) of these very friendly local girls to touch my wood when you do. I mean, its the least I could do to support the team and I'd sacrifice myself like that if it helped.

Doesn't cost huge money to make a reliable SBC that can reliably run to 7000rpm regularly..... Making it reliably bounce off the 7000rpm limiter for extended periods of time in top gear is probaly a different matter.

I didn't say that I had paid double for my engine or that it was indeed bullet proof.
