Hi,

Has anyone fitted an Aircon Unit from Car Builders Solutions?

It looks like it would fit OK.... This Unit is 17,000btu. Does anyone know the capacity of the factory unit? It's less than half the price, but if the factory unit has a much higher capacity, then I guess it warrants the extra cost... I can get a condenser and hoses made up through work, so this would be a much cheaper option.

As far as i could tell it is exactly the same as factory one except the front air outlet moulding which has 2 outlets on the front and 1 each side, only problem is I intend to put a ally sleve over steering bearing suports to stop any chance of contact with moving parts.

I am planning to have 2 vents in the dash, so I think it will fit pretty well.

it has been suggested that you have to link the aircon to the engine ECU - any comments? - Does it affect engine idle if no interconnect?

Some air con units don't like spinning very fast, so a cut out on the compressor at high engine rpm would be nice .. most ecus have user configurable outputs that you can use to switch a relay at say 4500rpm and above ...

also aircon takes a lot of hp to drive, so you might want a full throtle cut-off for the compressor just for those times when outright hp is needed .. it then cuts back in as soon as your foot comes off the throttle very slightly ..

The GM ECU that I am running on my LS2 has a connection to the AC request signal, which tells the computer that the AC compressor is about to be engaged, so it increases the revs to compensate.
