Hi guys,i'm interested in buying a GTR next year, however alot of you seem to have trouble with engine reliability.Searching the forum, also adverts i see cars with engine rebuilds at less that 5,000 miles.Anyone out there shed some light on it for me please,i don't expect the engine to do 100,000 miles trouble free but there has to be people out there with 30,000 miles on one engine with no rebuilds!

Buy an LS1 engine..... Jeff Schwartz had 30,000 miles on his LS6 with a load of drag strip (+ no2) and circuit work before he pulled it out and put twin turbos in there.

Yep. Had about 35,000 miles on the original LS6, Crafty beat the pi** out of it on Power Tour, couldn't kill it, still ran stong. Switched to the twin turbo LS2 now. Haven't pulled the LS6 apart yet, but expect no suprises. Will probably put a fresh set of rings in it and put it in a future Hot Rod project. LSX, only way to go IMO.

Steve my Canam had done 12,000 largely trouble free miles when I sold it a few weeks ago, and the engine performed exactly as it did when new(according to the original builder and certainly during the 3 years that I owned it)

I regularily drove it into my office during the summer months in stop start traffic and found it a remarkably civilised drive considering it's performance (525bhp SBC). The car was properly maintained with very regular oil and filter changes and I would be very confident that it would be good for a lot more miles providing it doesn't get too abused!

Still miss it though...cry

Thanks for the info guys,I will have around 40K to play with so i'm guessing it will be a SBC,hope to find one next summer with around 500BHP ish.Don't mind rebuilding it every 30,000 miles or so,just object to do it at 5,000 miles.
Had a good search throught the forum, found out a few things needed for a reliable engine.
