Ian - VERY!

Never driven at Rockingham and now that they've revised the kerbs, I fancy having a go.

I found out today that driving the car on public roads is like trying to hold back a bullet!

Dave Mc at the Ultima club is going to co-ordinate it,I checked with the organisers(Bookatrack) yesterday and there is availability but only 50 places, the cost is £185, but thier might be room for negotaition if we do it as a group.
Like Stig i've never driven Rockingham, so it has the potential of a great day out. Not sure about noise limits, but i'll try and find out.

The noise limit is 105db's which mean we should be OK, not sure about the wall as I'm hardly a seasoned track man......

I'm very keen though and will try to rearange my diary.

Andy, Sounds like we're all on a steep learning curve, but as long as we all put the sensible head on(well not too sensible)for the day we'll have a good time!
Dave Mc is going to speak to the organisers early week, then all we need to do is put our hands in our pockets!

I have my reasons for being afraid of the wall, you only need to read my web site to get an incling of why.

However I have managed to secure the day off, so let me know the arrangments.

Go for it chaps. I went to Rockingham when it opened, did not chance to get on it and regrets since. Will not have Can Am finished in time. Fun to watch the BRCC boys in a BM on first lap. No one told the driver half the track was sectioned off for the inner paddock. Good to see full racing brakes in use from in excess of 160mph after he saw the cones.

I raced at Rockingham the season before last. It's great fun. Taking the banked corner with your foot flat to the boards is loads of fun. You look ahead, and all you can see is the wall, then you exit onto the straight with it right by your door. Theat is, assuming you get it right

The infield is a bit uninspiring though.

Are we still serious about this event........... I've re-arranged to go but there is an Autocar event the next day at Bedford, (safer?) which is £168

I can only go to one (work commitments) and would prefer to go with my Ultima chums so you can all laugh at my driving.

I'm still serious about it, Dave Mc from the Ultima club said he would pull it all together if there were enough of us!

May have to pass on this one, just got back from Bruntingthorpe, great venue, excellent 120mph corners and a straight that you can max out a jumbo jet, sadly, I blew the engine again !!!

I can't believe your luck, and hounesty... maybe once you have come down from the ceiling you can give us a brief as to what happened and why (if you know).

Call me a wimp (and I know some will) but I am becoming a little sceptical that Rockingham is the place for me to take my Ultima and I may try (if I can get my exhaust sorted by then) and go to the Autocar event on the Tuesday instead.

Main reason is if I think the track has no run off area I will hold back, I did this at a track day with Paul and stems from an accident I had on track a few years ago.

However when I went to Donnington I pushed my Ultima much harder (but not to the linit) and was able to trust the car much more as I had the perception of a greater safety margin.

It's a 393 cu in Ford that i had professionally built, (several times??)on the Dyno it produced 465bhp and when in one piece is a great engine, but it just likes eating pistons!

Mark, Andy, same old scenario, bottom of the straight, down into 4th, 4000rpm turn in, accelerate hard through the apex, engine note turns into a flat bark and onto 7 cylinders. Return to paddock, jack up windscreen wiper motor--fit new car!

So much for "Ford gives you more" - sorry to hear about this Ian

Hope you get it sorted soon. Have you thought about fitting a Chevy?

I know the comment was tounge in cheek but I don't think swopping from Ford to Chevy is an option without changing an awful lot, for a start the water flows the other way round so radiator would need changing etc....
