Anyone fancy a track day?
Discussion
It has been talked about many times before I know but I for one will most definitely be doing something this year (Goodwood 21.5.07 and Spa 20/21/.8.07 will certainly be happening) but was contemplating doing a day @ Donington on a 105db event and being that it is in the Midlands was thinking that it would be central enough that others may be interested, what say you fellas?
Yes I hope to be doing a couple of track days come spring/early summer. I'm seriously thinking about having a go at the Pistonheads Dunsfold (Top Gear Track) session to see for myself just how short of the mark I am. It would be nice to see one or two Ultimas getting on the 'leader board', though I'm fairly confident I won't be one of them, but will enjoy it nonetheless.
There is also RAF Marham in mid April as gtrgaz posted earlier. This is a great day, particularly for our type of cars as the main runway is used and is over a mile of straight x 20m wide. The only downside is the grit that comes off the surface, some form of paint protection is wise! Last September a Lambo club turned up, that made it interesting specially when a 'kitcar' overtakes them! Mind you I didn't stand much of a chance against the Enzo, hence my quest for a higher top speed.

I didn't think you were going to put it on the track Wayne! I knew you would cave in! Good boy.

You must have misunderstood me pee (don't worry, I am used to it!). My intention was always to use the GTW on track, but not give it the full beans, I have a V8 BMW E36 for that (worth about a tenth of the GTW so although destruction of the car would not be my wish, should I myself survive a big shunt, I could at least deal with the reality). The idea behind the GTW is to make an annual pilgrimage to say Spa (this year fingers X) and enjoy the foreign climbs and driving to and from track with touring the track being the objective but only as a final destination, not with regards to going 10/10ths round it and risking it all, what is the point in that?

It appears that nowadays, track days at Donington are either 98dB (no good for Ultimas) or Unsilenced (sweet for Ultimas) but very expensive. Gold track have quite a few track days there and in the summer the unsilenced ones are approaching £300 !!! If you're willing to take more of a chance on the weather, they do unsilenced days in the early months and late months for just under £200. Is there a 105 dB event listed somewhere ?

The Enzo didn't pass me on the main runway, although I'm sure he probably could have edged past had he really wanted, when I last glanced at my speed, 185 had come and gone...
I courteously let him past at the end of it... and all the other idiots who were clinging onto his rear bumper...

Balls Wayne,
You said " I am not going to put the Ultima on the track it's not that type of car!"
Thanks god you came to your senses.....
Well, you changed your mind....

I can not remember my exact words to you on the subject pee but is that not the reason that us human beings have a mind: so that we may change it?
I think you may be confused in as much that where as you have chosen to create a heavily track focused car that can be driven on the road, I have done the exact opposite, and if you remember, we did discuss this subject the time before last when we met. If I could be certain that I would be able to maximise the use of a mainly track car then I may have gone in a slightly different direction with the GTW but in all honesty, although I like to think that I am into track work, I am not, and in fact get more enjoyment talking about it and planning rather than doing, but isn't that often the way in life?

My car is not going to be track bias! It's just better all round (than it was) on road and track. But not drag racing.
Teeeheehee.
Anyway, who's car has the centre locks on them???
Love Peepee

To be honest I was never on track at the same time, I just heard that he was doing 210 on the main straight. Now that just sounds like a dame lie and I could have had some fun...
