A while back we brought up the topic of an removable inspection panel in the area of the pedals.
We firmly believe in absolute pedal adjustment especially if the car is to see the track, and in our mind, it seemed rather difficult and awkward to reach under the panel and have convenient access to the rear of the pedals.
So we took the plunge, err rather the sabresaw did, and came up with what we think will be a great asset in the future for access to the pedals, back of the heater, wiper motor, and rear windscreen bolts when we change windcreens.
I know some of you younger, thinner guys love to slither into small places in all awkward positions, but I'd rather save that energy for other things.
Some photos of the project are on my page 3 of my buildsite, near the end of the page.

Aha! I didn't get as far as the 140's! Good solution though.

Very nice. Now all you need to do is make the backing plate, a template for cutting out the panel and an instruction sheet and tell us how much to send you for it.

I'm impressed, its a good idea.

However, I'm particularly interested in your air filter, It's exactly what I have been looking for, and exactly the right thing for a can-am with full screen.

Any chance of some details on it like cost, who sells it, could an idiot like myself do the mods required etc?

Thanks

Your mental capabilities might be in question for wanting to own a CanAm, but if you can afford to buy one, I don't think you are an idiot.
Having said that, go to
http://summitracing.com/
"Online catalogue", "Mr. Gasket" under "manufacturers", and part no. 5232. That was the only way I could pull it up as it doesn't come up in the air cleaner section. I did first see it in my paper catalogue.
Not knowing what you have for a fuel delivery system, I can't advise whether this will be a bolt on item or not. I fabricated the adapter plate out of .125"- 2024 aluminum plate.
I have the advantage of a small machine shop, so that allows me to "make" things fit. However, it also allows me to pass my projects on to other builders, to show them what can be done if it's of interest to them.

Managed to find it thanks.

Silly question does it come with an air filter and how close to the clip vent does it go (the closer the better in my view).

Andy
P.S.I have a Holley 750dp on a normal height intake manifold.

Andy
It comes with an internal filter and a screen and filter in the opening.
It's actually quite close to the vent, maybe about 2", and this is adjustable if you're using a carb. As far as the height of your carb, this is the first Chevvy engine I've worked on, and mine has fuel injection, so I'm sorry, but I can't help you on height.
At first I thought if the height was going to be too high, I could remove some of that lip on the top of the air cleaner, but that would not help as the rear of the air cleaner just misses the engine cover, since the cover slopes down.
I'll try and get a height of my fuel injection manifold for you tomorrow, and you can compare it with you carb. That way you can get some idea if you can make it work.

Alastair.
I have the same Edelbrock EFI that AS uses, and it has a remote module that you use for mapping the engine.
It appears straighforward to use, and when I ran the engine for the first time, it was without the mufflers.
The noise was too much to play with the unit, so I'll finish it once the mufflers are on. I'll also fully read the manual before I do it again. The Edelbrock contact here who handles the EFI tech line is quite helpful.
Am putting the Ultima aside for a week while we take the F2000 racing, but will finish the exhaust when we return now that the right header is back from the factory.
In summary, it appears that if you read the manual, and can do what they tell you, it should be no problem.
It would probably be a good idea at one time to put the car on a dyno and check your settings with the dyno technicians.

As promised have some dimensions for you.
Height of top of air cleaner to flat portion of the block where the bottom of the intake manifold makes contact is approx. 12".
From the bottom of the plate that I made for the air cleaner to the top of the aircleaner is approx. 4.25".
Hope this will be of some help to you
