Gentelmen: I am installing an LS1 into a GTR. I have a G50 -02 gearbox with the mount as supplied by Ultima, and I am stuck. When I posistion the block onto the plates supplied by Trans Adapt along with the Energy Suspension urethane bushings the back of the engine winds up about an inch in front of the trans axel. As a reference the very back of the engine adapter plate is setting on the cross bar. HELP PLEASE. Lee

I have the same fitment with the LS7, G50-52 and TransDapt. Unless I am mistaken, the answer is a fabricated trans mount. It would be a product someone could sell to those installing LSx engines into Ultimas. Only problem...not everyone uses the same adapters and transaxle.

You need to move the trans forward and remake the rear mount... this means that your shafts will be at an angle. I remade the rear trans bracket, my fabricator made a jig and can make another.... PM me if you need one.

Grant, which trans do you have and what is the clearance between the top of the trans case and the bottom of the chassis rail (not at the end, but one frame forward)? And, does your adapter plate also sit just over the chassis lower crossmember? I would be interested in getting one of those mounts, if it will fit my setup.

Thanks,
-- Scott

My fingerometer says one finger. Note also that this position (1" forward) leaves the breather clear of the chassis rail

yep

To make the mount I:

1. Mounted the engine
2. Attached transaxle
3. Used a jack under the transaxle to position the transaxle in the centre of the car (side to side)
4. With the factory mount in place, adjusted the height so that the trans sat at the same level as the factory one.
5. Cut the factory mount up and made a mock-up in place, this was not pretty so my fabricator made a jig off the mock-up and made a new mount off the jig.

Okay. Thanks for the photos. The fit is similar. However, since my T/A is a 50-52, I don't thing the rear mount is in the same place.

When the T/A was connected to the engine sitting in the chassis, the through-bolt in the mounting hardware was not in the same plane (height) as the donut in the T/A. My guess is different mounting hardware will be required.

That said, the process you used will be exactly what I will do. Luckily, my neighbor is a retired welder! I use my snow-thrower to clear his driveway since he has had two knee replacements. He is happy to help with any welding projects I need.

Did you go with a remote oil filter? The LS7 filter is just about 1/5th over the same chassis rail as the adapter plate.

Hmmm..looks like I may have to face this problem too with my LS7 and G50/05. All due to be dropped in in chassis during the next couple of weeks...Once the spraying is done

BTW Does anybody know what flavour of Porsche my 05 box may have come from? I hear lots of 01/2/3 50/52's but not much about 05's...

What he said.
G50/50 or G 50/52 or GT2 style 6 speed are a bit longer.
May not need to fab a new trans mount on them.
