Sounding like pure adrenaline!

I was just pondering......
If we were honest, most of us want the biggest baddest sounding Ultima from our hard won efforts and cash!
Jermy Clarkson once did a stint on 'Top Gear' looking for the best sounding super-car if I remember.
Not being nor understanding the expertise which goes into building exhausts, I wondered if the engine note/sound that we all want to be heart-fluttering can be radically affected by the design of the exhausts?
Perhaps we need an old-fashioned church organ tuner??????
If it could, are there any specialist 'Exhaust Boutiques' out there?

At a recent car show I saw a guy selling £10 CD's with about 20 "sound" tracks....... ever track of a engine reving its nuts off.... and every one listening to the 60 min CD..... I think that getting a bit sad, however, Ultima exhaust greatest hits Vol9 could be a good little earner...
I owned a Pantera in the past. Yes I know it wasn't my brightest car moment. The Pantera had one redeeming virtue I had installed an equal length cross over exhaust, ala Ford GT40. The car had an O.K. note at idle but above 2000 rpm it was pure Le,mans. It sounded like the biggest bad-ass Jap bike with a Kerker exhaust you have ever heard. I hope to replicate that on my LS1 powered GTR. I have talked to the appropraite people and the project is underway. Results excpected by the end of the summer. When I am satisfied with the results I will post pictures and a sound track. Rowdy Renault
I guess you all realise that different V8s sound different with dual pipes because of their firing orders. So depending on firing order you get a different "beat" in each pipe.
With the single pipe you lose that effect and get a more rounded sound... an even beat if you like. I like the single exhaust sound - sounds like its revving harder.
The Ford exhaust is paired so that pipes are matched and fire sequentially in each collector, the idea being to create a better scavenging effect. This gives an even beat in each pipe.
A cross over in a dual system is somewhere between true duals and single pipe.

Hey Grant......I am impressed!
You almost sound like you know what you're talking about!!!
Fantastic!

Seriously though (just for 30 seconds!) Would be fantastic to find someone who can make the sort of pipes needed to match your 'accustic expectations/ dreams' .......Dunno anout Black, but...
sound is everything!

I've survived all my 57 years doin that! And you kinda get good at it!
Jeeezz, I have just let the cat out the bag!!!!
Nooooo! Keith (old)
Keith, I think you are asking a bit too much of your exhaust. Things that will make a noticeable difference are larger displacement, lighter internals, induction type but even then, the sound will not be 'tune-able' as such and even if it were, how would you describe it to an exhaust/engine builder as any definition/description is likely to be interpreted differently from one person to another.
When building the GTW the eventual exhaust note was never even considered and needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome but it could easily have gone the other way and I do not know what I might have done about it if it had.
One thing to consider is that big power generally makes big noise and if you are to use a standard factory manifold they are short with no balance pipe and even with 34" primaries and a balance pipe, the GTW still puts out 103db's! ( 100db's is the SVA requirement ).

Why not spend a bit extra on pucker ICE and see if you can get hold of one of those CD's mentioned by Shft, it will sound like whatever you want then!
