Le Man GT kit Car on Ultima Chassis
Discussion
Gents,
Has anyone seen this?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lemans-GT-kit-c
I have the brochures and it looks like it is built on the Ultima chassis, which is interesting. I might go to the factory to take a look.
I remember when the car was first released with the twin turbo Audi V6 engine in a bespoke chassis, but this is apparently just that body in GRP on an Ultima chassis.
Any thoughts?

I've spoken to Arash and asked a few questions and I'm just waiting for a reply...
I have been familiar with Ultima for the past few years, hence why I lurk on here, despite never posting... But, truth be told, when I saw the original Farboud GT in the flesh I fell totally in love with the Porsche GT1-type shape...
I was very disappointed when they canned it, due to the threat of legal action from Porsche themselves I believe, so the opportunity to own one now may be possibly too good to pass up.
With the wealth of talent and experience on here, I'm sure the mechanical side could be sorted fairly easily. I have spent some time looking at the Chevy installs, especially the LS7, and this package in the Farboud body might be too good to pass up!
Anyway, it's all in the pipeline at the moment as I don't need anything until my Ireland contract is up and I move back to London. But I will take in a factory visit.
Thanks,
Dom

I looked at it last weekend, its all ultima apart from the body,He only makes money on the body but can advise you of cheaper ways of building the rest,ie ford scorpio brakes and uprights, ford transit radiator a cheap fuel tank and run a rover v8!!!!!!!!......I'm glad I bought an ultima...Plus if your over 5'6" you have no chance odf fitting in!!!!!!!the cockpit is about half the size of a gtr honestly dont bother although the chap who sells them is really great and has a couple of lambos,a porsche and some other bits and pieces, its worth going just to have a look at them and his £400,000 unit which is immaculate,
Andrew.
Andrew.
Oh god,
Here we go again.....
This looks like the original Arash Farboud GT car prototype which was built on a very badly hacked about Ultima chassis.
He had to have a designer scrap his original design because Porsche sent him a copy of their original design patent and threatened to sue him if he tried to sell one.
The designer who re-designed his car which became the "Farboud GT" project, basically scrapped all his original plans and started again.
The "Farboud GT" was built on an aluminium honeycomb tub with a steel rear subframe and a GRP body shell with a bit of carbon thrown in.
This project was scrapped when his dad (who done his best to convince Arash not to even start this project) decided this was becomming a bottom less money pit and needed lots of £££ to finish.
Sadly though what they produced at the Old Buckenham hanger wasn't that bad at all, many top people were involved in the project, and in relative terms the car was almost finished.
The project was moth balled, moved to Cambrige and then sold to a guy who scrapped the honeycomb chassis and Audi engine and was going to make a fresh chassis from scrath out of steel.
I think Arash's crew almost made 4 cars in total at Old Buckenham, I don't know what happened to them all and if they all got finished.
I think Mr Porsche wouldn't want him selling body panel kits which are basically copies of one of their GT cars, but maybe they don't care any more as we are going back a few years now ?
I wouldn't want to cough up any dosh unless I had seen a "production" set of GRP panels, and actually spoken to somebody who had fitted them.

I believe at one point they were in discussion with RCR in the US about building a chassis, but RCR had there own group C type car they were building to launch as a kit etc http://silicon.fastnet.co.uk/specialist-car/php/ob...
So many things start and never finish........

Ok.......
The RCR-P (Yellow Car in the pics) is an ally monocoque construction with a rear spaceframe for the engine and box.
Yeah billet Ally is a bit keen for a road car, but it works out easier when you make lots of cars that share the same suspension parts.
But your comment of overkill is interesting in the light of this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... if it costs the same or less but is lighter and stronger, how can that be worse?
I thought the "Farboud GT" was a nice looking car, people seemed intersted in it.

Blxxdy hell,
I have now read all 3 pages of that thread, and refuse to get dragged into that argument !
However, you can make wishbones out of ERW or squashed ERW or any number of grades of CDS.
This is one subject I know marginly more than nothing about and all I can say is if someone thinks its cheaper to machine of wishbones from 7075 T6 plate rather than steel tube, they need to find a new steel fabricator !
Elise wishbones are designed to absorb impact, which is far cheaper than changing the tub every time you hit a curb to fast.
Elise wishbones start at only £105 each last time i checked.
As for the whole Ultima is wonderful, Elise is Cr*p argument all I can say is if the Ultima was so wonderful in every respect why hasn't it got FULL production type aproval ? and why haven't they sold over 3,000 per year ?
How the hell can you compare a relativly tame 1800cc production car with a factory or DIY built kit car which you can stick a supercharged V8 in ?
Both cars have their merits and dedicated fans neither are far from perfect in every respect.

Tricky...
we make all of our cars/chassis/components in house...we also manufacturer tubular steel components...such as full rollcage structures and our new Superlite Roadster.
RCR chose to use billet for the absolute repeatability/accuracy...I know that our customers prefer these components of they would ask for tubular steel as an option.
We have designed our systems be they suspension, chassis, engine or trans related to have a mechanical fuse and break away prior to major chassis damage or deformation...much like any open wheel race car worth its salt...

Sorry guys... Finally managed to move from Dublin to Aberdeen and now back in London. However, I seem to have managed to lose all my emails in the move and now no longer have Arash's contact details or the car brochures.
I searched for the threads containing 'Farboud' in the Ultima forum and it threw up my one (this one) obviously and a few others. But, none of the eBay links work other than saying they have been removed.
Is Arash still selling the bodywork, does anyone know? Does anyone have his contact details?
I still fancy going and having a look, even if I won't fit in it! I went to see a chap who raced Jaguar XJR-9 onwards Group C cars a few years back and he had a display car with GRP bodywork for sale (full scale obviously) and GRP tub etc for £5k but I was in the process of buying a house without a garage. I also managed to lose his contact details as well some years back... I'd bite his hand off for it now, if he still has it!
Cheers,
Dom
