Guys,
Bit of advice please....
Has anyone here impoted an engine (or soething similar) from the states to the UK?
Any guidance? Any idea if I should use an agent? If so any recommendations?
How cheap can I do this? Any good ideas how to minimise the duty/VAT? (legally of course!)
In fact any help...greatly appreciated!!!!

I imported all the engine parts bar the block so it came in as a whole pallet load.
You may convince your supplier to invoice a slightly lower value for each itm which will reduce the duty.
In terms of the import duty I was advised (by BAX Global) to get the supplier to put Bournemouth (just along the coast from me) as the port of entry. It then came into Heathrow and straight onto a bonded truck down to Bournemouth. For some bizar reason the import duty is lower at provincial airports. They also seem more relaxed about things.
The bill is still rather painful.

It's not a legal loophole. The supplier and the buyer/importer stand to be fined or worse.

Until my post, it had not been stated (and you didn't) that the suggested method was illegal. Perhaps it was inferred but I just made a statement that may make it clear to anyone reading these posts in the future that at that time the only suggested method has repercussions. Other legal methods are available but until eric posted, the only method discussed in detail is illegal.
