I am looking to have some alloy steering arms made. Material specs and design type + price to follow, is anyone interested in a set either for an existing car or new build? Just putting out the feelers? idea

Great idea.
Rose jointed ones?
LHT - RHT
I made some for my widetrack, they took a while to do, but look great.

Wayne: I would certainly take a look, the stock ones are a bit of overkill. Lee

Right then, the specs have been finalised and are as follows: Material used is H15 Aluminium and has a tapper to fit standard track rod ends, so direct replacement is the name of the game. They will be approx. 75% lighter than the originals and can be powder coated or anodised ( this will be down to the purchaser ) and so no more ugly corroded iron ones to contend with nono They will be a different shape physically but will look a lot more purpose made than the originals. Price = £120 per pair + P&P. I am having 10 arms made and 6 have already gone so that leaves 4 ( 2 X pairs = 1 X pair per car ). If more are required, I can commission another batch yes

Edited to say they will weigh approx. 25% of the weight of the standard items = 75% lighter.

Due to fervored interest shown I have instigated the manufacture of another 5 x pairs of steering arms so there will be plenty to go around yes

I am all for losing weight (I need too – I like my food) especially un-sprung weight. What my concern would be is the long term durability compared to the standard. Ultimas have a lot of tread on the road and I have gone wider still at the front which will put additional loads on the steering arm – most noticeable when manoeuvring at slow speed. I now use my car mainly on track and have been known to clip or ride the odd curb when getting carried away and this may put greater than normal load on the steering arms
I am sure you would not be doing this if you did not feel it was safe but what would you anticipate the strength difference being comparative to the original. Is this mainly for aesthetic reasons or would you expect to feel the difference whilst driving?

I get the point but rest assured, these items have not been created on a whim and that is also why we are using H15 which is a particularly strong alloy and has been proven time and time again in race situations far more arduous than any you may experience on the road. I will put pictures up in due course. Originally I was interested in this type of arm for reasons that you would not think: Structurally smaller and weaker material = bent steering arms rather than rack or more expensive hardware but once discussions began it was deemed more sensible to over engineer and go for strength primarily followed by light weight and aesthetics last as strength would be paramount on a road car.

Yes but will you be able to find them?

If you took them of anywhere over about a week ago then it may be years before they surface again.

Your sales pitch is working - you have me on the end of the line.

It's a while since I put mine together so cant recall just how heavy they are - can you enlighten me - If its a 1lb or more you might have convinced me (if I’m not too late). I don't know if I would notice the difference but as I'm looking to race again next year it would be good to loose weight in this area and I'm sure I’ll need all the help I can get.
