possible problem on G50

Hi guys: I started to install my G50 into the GTR and ran into a problem. It seems that the G50 trannys were modified by the factory to adress a throw out bearing problem. the old throw out bearing has a larger hole for the input shaft and bearing support and a corespondingly bigger bearing support. The new style throw out bearing has a smaller center hole and of course a smaller O.D. on the bearing support. Soooo when I tried to insert my new style bearing onto an old style support I came up about a 1/2 inch short of matting the tranny to the engine. This was very confusing because it allowed the input shaft to engage the clutch so it was hard to see the problem. Then I got a little smarter and tried to slide the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing onto the input shaft and found the problem. The other possible problem would be if you installed an old style bearing on a bearing support. it would all go together but the bearing would have about 1.5mm of play. That could get ugly to figure out. Lee

Had the same problem, bashed my head against the wall for a few days trying to sort it out, thought it was clutch alignment... couldnt find a hammer large enough to force the transaxle into place (hehe)... and discovered the same problem...you need to get a new 32mm guide tube... email @ the time below

Tried in vain to get the transaxle fitted on the weekend. It gets within
about 1" and wont go any further. I checked and rechecked the alignment, and it seemed fine.

Then I measured the throw out bearing and the guide tube on the box..... and it turns out that the throw out bearing is smaller (32mm) than the guide tube (38mm)


I checked on PH and this seems to be a common problem, apparently the guide tube can be changed.

They sent me a 32mm guide tube and the box went straight on.

I had the same problem with my factory supplied G50, they forgot to change the sleeve.

These people sell the correct guide tube for £38, but you can probably get it at any Porsche place:
