Well, it's out at last!!
What a fg by bd job that was getting this blower/air con unit out.

I feel a bit sick, standing on my head for so long, I;ve gone boss eyed and my neck feels like I have spent 2 hours in an F1 car!
I learnt one thing though, I need stronger reading glasses!

I should have got the factory to do it really. The price they quoted was very resonable, but by then I had it stripped down. The worst part was actually getting it out from under the dash.



Just off to the factory to see if it can be repaired

The advise given earlier was that you dismantle the housing from around the heater/fan and bring it out in bits. Looks like you took it out whole which, as you have demonstrated, is not possible.

Hi Steve, it IS possible, as proved above. Believe it or not the unit was like that.
That is why I had to take it out.
There was a terrible grinding noise when I turned the air con on a few weeks ago, then the main fuse blew.
I suspected there was something wrong when I saw bits of plastic in the drivers footwell that day

No idea what caused it though, it's well protected under the dash, so highly unlikely that it's recieved a whack of some sorts

I did speak to the factory beforehand. They did say it was possible to remove in one piece.....have to admit, I was a bit sceptical at first

I read in a hot rod magazine, cant remember witch one that the plastic in some of these units (not sure on manufacture) does not like certain chemicals as it causes the plastic to become hard and brittle. I think the mentioned brake fluid, or maybe it was brake cleaner. This was discovered after some of the hot rod guys had these units mounted under the dash next to the brake reservoir.

I can probably find the article some ware if its important.

Had you used any cleaners or lubricants in and around the unit ?
