2 more Ultima's in Magazine

Sport Compact Car Magazine is taking votes for the 10 readers cars to be featured in the Ultimate Street Car Challenge contest.
The latest (July 2003) issue depicts my Ultima GTR, Jay Esterers BMW V12 powered GTR and 80 other cars. They are asking readers to fill out the ballot in the magazine and vote for the top 10 cars you'd like to see battle it out on the Road Race track, Drag Strip, Dyno, etc. Unfortunately they are not accepting emails, faxes or photo copies. So if you'd like to see Ultimas in a shootout with other, mostly japanese, cars please buy the magazine, send in the ballot and be sure to vote for #79.
The contest will be held in California in Sept 03.
Last year a Viper won it.
Thanks,
Jeff Schwartz

I hope we both make it to California in september.
I drove my v12 GTR for the first time today. Everything
seems to work OK, except for coolant flow. I think I will add an electric WP. The car drives well and it sounds like an F1. For more pics and info on the car go to www.europeancarparts.ca

Jay, was looking at your pics, very impressive.
How would you say your car compares with another ultima of similiar power? I'm looking for something different, and have thought about a beamer v12.
How heavy is it? How does your car handle? I know it's an expensive (relatively anyway) to mod, do you have plans for it? Last of all, how's the sound

Nice mods! I have also been thinking about reinforcement of the chassi. I'm building a 1000+ hp twin turbo engine and feels that the chassi may be a little to weak for the power. (boost is controlled by the EMS so I can have down to 550hp) The pics of the Jig didn't work, can you please explain a bit more about how to measure the chassi strength? Thanks!

I am sorry about the limited info and pics on the web site, I will try to have it fixed monday. There will also be a video of the v12 GTR driving.
The engine with all the acessories on it is 500 lbs.
I am building a high output version of the motor and I hope to get 460 HP.
the jig used to test rigidity holds the back of the frame at the axle center line. The front of the car is then twisted with a 10 foot long lever with 100 lbs on
it (1000 ft/lbs). The amount of twist is then measured
with a dial gauge.
There will be a pic of this on monday

Jay,
Now youve got me worried about the "standard" suspension set up. As I know diddly squat about suspension set ups, does anyone else think Ive got anything to worry about?
Are the standard springs THAT hard or are they quite OK?
Ive read tests of the GTR where the tester commented on how SOFTLY sprung the car was and how he expected it to be much firmer.
HELP!!
As for the chassis stiffness...well I would have found that out as were required to test the chassis is both torsion and bending in order to get it registered.
At least I now know how to stiffen it up!
BTW, Jay, did you test the chassis in bending?

The standard spring rates appear to be 500 to 700 lb/in
Using the same math Gordon Murrey used (convieniently
outlined in the book Driving Ambition) I came up with 160's in the front and 300 lb/in for the back.
The car drives, handles and rides beyond my expectations. I can controle, to a certain degree, the greater dive and pitch with the active shocks. Its all to soon to tell though as there are only about 5 miles on the car.
I have to put an interior in before I drive the car any
further.
