Had a missed call from the factory today. Called 'em back.
Richard had called after watching the Brands Vid and the Honington V-max run.
He and Ted thought that I was keeping the revs too high for too long. They reckoned that by dropping 1000 rpm I would lose no time on the track (and perhaps even gain) and preserve the engine more. Looking at the Vmax event it is kind of scary that the std G50/03 ratios got me to 7000rpm and 172 about 3/4s of the way down the strip.
My reason for going so high in 3rd was that I have increased 4th (and 5th) and the jump is now about 1500rpm which is quite large. But looking at the vids again, I see that my high shifts brought the revs down to 5,500 which is 1,200 OVER max torque (517@4300). Richard suggested a 6500 chip to kind of 'train' me into shift in the band.
They added that the type of treatment that I was giving the engine would be better handled by a 640 or 720 engines which do better at high RPM
Think I might try it.

I used to rev my car to 7000rpm on the track and even slapped a 7500rpm chip in it once and kept my foot in until it hit the limiter to ensure I hit 60mph in 1st.... My engine did have solid roller lifters though and produced the power higher up.
However even I beleive hitting the rev limiter in top gear is asking for engine trouble.
