Running the Engine With Rear Clip Open

I suspect that the the GTR is the same as the CanAm in that if you run the engine with the rear clip open, the exhaust hits the fiberglass right above the grill.
I'm thinking of making some aluminum baffles to perhaps secure in some way to the fiberglass if I have to check the engine as it runs with the clip open. That is the case right now, as we're having some problems with the Edelbrock EFI. The good thing is that the clip is off the car for undercoating, but will be ready to re-install tomorrow.
I guess my question is if the exhaust heat has caused any damage.
Also, if anyone has any idea why the engine is surging back and forth between 1000 and 1500 rpm, that would be greatly appreciated. Edelbrock does not re-open here until Tuesday, and I would like to solve this before then.

I will send you a private note, but usually this is the IAC - idle air circuit. I know Accel, Motec and SpeedPro, but I hope edelbrocks unit is not much different.

On the exhaust, we use tubing from the shops that do smog checks, and jut pop the tips off and route it out that way for tuning, etc. Especially nice for longer fuel map tunings.

Good idea. It's easier to remove the exhaust tips rather than the whole engine clip.
Will look into the idle tuning a little further. Edelbrock is helpful on the phone when you can reach them, but I think there's only one person doing tech, and when you hang up to try something they recommend, it could be days before you can make contact again.
