Rear Uprights - Handed to Me...

So I think I have it right, but they are not marked (that I can see). There are some serial numbers etched by hand into the castings. There doesn't seem to be any indication of right or left side.

If my eye is correct (can't hardly see anymore), this is the right side...turning the bolt anti-clockwise is putting it on tighter.

Any clarification would be very helpful. Thanks!

One's left handed thread the other right.... So yes they are handed but you will have to ask the factory which way they want them....

Yes, it says they are handed in the build manual. But, there was no indication as to which one is which.

Easy to remember guys - Left hand side = left hand thread

I just looked at ours and the nut with the green nylon is on the right (wrong) side. should I switch the uprights or does it not matter

It may well be a pain to change but I would just to be on the safe side. I have centre lock wheels on the GTW and they have the same arrangement and when the car was being put together the general consensus of opinion was that they MUST be installed correctly and I see no reason why the same school of thought should not apply in your case also.

of cause on the fronts its clearly braking, but on the rear????

It says so in the build manual, but I couldn't find a L/R stamp. Studied them for a while. What is the physical difference?

Good question. Seems the reverse thread should be on the right side, if acceleration is the devil.

the stamp in on the tip of the wheel hub. the little peice that sticks through the center bore of the wheel.

And yeah i though for the back it probably doesnt matter since there is both acceleration and braking

According to Ike's build site, the "L" and "R" only indicate thread direction...not the side to install on. I will drop a line to the factory and post back...

They don’t make it clear in the build manual.
The section on building the hubs says:-


“The front upright with the right hand thread is on the left hand side of the car and visa versa with the left hand thread.”

They then go on to say:-

“FITTING
The upright marked L on the hubs fits the left side of the car and visa versa. “

If it makes no difference which hand is fitted on either side then why are they handed threads in the first place?

The stampings on the uprights are marked correctly for the side of the car. Andy at the factory stamps those himself. He puts "L" on the right-handed thread and "R" on the left-handed thread.

FYI... Steering arm to upright Allen-head bolts get 35 ft/lb torque.

I tried contacting the factory to see if it mattered which side the rears were on and I never got a reply
