"Airtight Bag" for GTR

Hi Guys,

I know we still do have summer...but winter is appoaching inexorably. Hence I´m already thinking of how to hibernate my GTR in my Garage. Thing is, my garage lies under ground and it is quite humid in there (up to 90 % humidity)....Thus I was thinking about buying (or constructing...) a kind of "Airtight Bag" in which the car could be placed. One could draw air out (I know it won´t be possible to vacuumize !) but at least decrase the amount of air so there won´t be any humidity left and the Car won´t get dusty over the winter months... MY QUESTION NOW IS:
Has anyone over there (USA) or under there (Australia) or near here (GB/UK) heard of a seller of something like I described it before ? Or does one of you already possess smth. like that ?

I had a carcoon for my old Ford Capri for several years (until my new garage was built) and the fans in it circulate air over the car to stop moisture and rust etc. It works very very well. The Capri is 20 yrs old and has no rust spots whatsoever. It gets my vote !

I use a Carcoon for my GTR and it works great. The "tent" doesn't stay up as you remove the power to the fan to move the car in or out. I have seen something recently that has a light frame structure to allow you to move the car in more like a garage, but still has the benefits of the fan and filter when closed. I'll look around and see if I can find it.

Hi Guys,

thanks for your multiple answers and links...Why do they use fans and
let air circulate instead of taking as much air away as possible ?
Am I wrong assuming, that where´s no air there´s no humidity, dust etc. ?
As I already wrote, the air in my garage got up to 90% humidity...If
now I let the fans blow the "garage-"air into the carcoon, I should again
have 90%humidity inside the carcoon, won´t I ?

Again I´m thankful for every comments.

P.S. By the way....question to all carcoon owners/users...:
Could one use the carcoon also to "vacuumize" the car by driving it
into the carcoon, let the fans be switched off and try to soak
air out instead ?

Hi Lutz

They really do work! The air movement is needed in order to stop condensation forming. A damp garage with high humidity and no air movement is what will cause rust! It's tried and tested technology! The air movement is the key!

The vacuum bag idea is a none starter! You need to control the enviroment in which the car sits! That's what these carcoons do! Read more about it on the links I sent you.
