Has anyone lowered the floor to provide more headroom?

I was just fitting the seats yesterday for the first time and noticed that it may be a little tight for my son with his helmet on (he's 6'3&quot. I'm not saying it can't work but it just looks tight. I have to take the car down for some TIG welding for the exhaust soon, so I was wondering if I should just have the floor lowered at the same time.

The GTM has a 5" ride height. That seems ample for almost all speed bumps. Would it hurt anything to lower the floors 1"? How much should I lower it?

I would not recommend it as any problems that seem to be encountered are usually in this area ( the seat bolts sometimes snag on speed humps/sleeping policemen ) and that is with a std. ride height which is a tad lower than the GTM. Have you thought about dropping the floor in conjunction with raising the ride height?

The factory options were a flat floor and a 2" dropped floor.

If your chassis has the floor as a straight sheet of steel across the underside of the chassis tubes then a 2" drop will be fine.
If it already has a drop then increasing that by an inch will not be good unless you raise the ride height by an inch.
I have the drop floor and know that it is on the very limit of what you can get away with.

Another option is to get a seat or seat bracket that reclines the seat allowing for more head room. If needed lengthen the steering column.

Great point guys. My floor has a 45 degree angled downward piece. So I would guess it is the lowered version. I'll leave it alone until I get it on the road to see how much of a problem it really is.

i've lowered the floor on my sport and i've cad drawings that most modern fab shops can use to make the trays, if anyone needs them.
