Just fitted a solenoid to keep the revs up when the AC switches on (I used the fan wiring to power it). After 5 1/2 years what a difference- the idle stays the same AC on or off.

I gave up going for a rich mix at idle when I went for a wild cam but I am sure this would have saved numerous engines with bore wash problems. I have a Holey HP carb which does not have a big issue with staling under braking but may well wire the Solenoid into the brake light switch as well.

For those that are interested the part numbers are as follows (both holley) Solenoid Fast Idle
Part #: 46-74 and Requires bracket and P/N 26–57 retaining nut for installation

Can't understand why the factory don't recommend this!

Wayne,

Do you think I should send them an invoice for the development time?

Thanks Blue will follow this over winter when fit A/C. Just had new HP carb installed like your own. So far very impressed with difference. Will see how it performs on track. BTW I think you will be stoned tonight.

Hi Crazy, very interested to know what the differences are.

Charles says that heas a fix for the stalling on braking issue so that, plus the AC idle solenoid would be a fix I wann do this winter.

Crazy/Lucky. Depending on the carb it takes about an hour to complete the job. On the hp carbs you need to tap a hole but on others the thread is already done.

Crazy,

When did you get the carb? And I do believ I will be very stoned tonight.

Dont want to discourage you, but I had exactly that solenoid installed 2 years ago and it worked very well, at least for 2 weeks. Then it got stuck, at approx. 3.000 rpm, which was quite unpleasant when I stopped at a traffic light. Had no idea what was going on and nearly crashed into the car in front of me. Had to throw it out then. Think it is simply to hot in our engine bays, or I had bad luck with my unit? Cant believe that.
Still would recommend to go with EFI. On my LS7 there is no problem with A/C whatsoever. Idle does not even drop slightly when A/C kicks in...

will see how it goes but thanks for the update. If this fails I will pay for a devent version!
The plus side is that is only moves the revs to 1100 when on.
