OK Ultimators.........

Which of these two cars has done:

A) 1600 miles and no track days.

or

B) 10,281 miles and 8 trackdays, and many stops from over 170mph

or

And more to the point, what advice would you give to the chap who was thinking of buying the '1600 mile' car??

Need some respnse on this one chaps please.

Lucks

I'd advise to look over the car very carefully, if that has only done 1600miles then how was the engine treated during the first 1000miles?

I know what the answer is but think it's a trick question so I'm not playing.

You know it Steve - but I guess what we need to know is would 1600 miles of non track miles cause these cracks???!!!

Dare I say it - I have seen a GTR with rotors in a similar state. But the reason was that they had been hand drilled eek

Scary!

I'm no expert on these matters, but that disc seems as if it has been though the temp range to me - rather quickly, and as Andy says, if those are just the discs!! eek

It's a common thing with drilled disks, and have seen a few cars fail MOT's on it.
Give me J-hook, slotted or just plain disks any day.

Point illustrated above Stu is that car in question has done 1600 no-track miles, my car, the rotor below, has done 10,200 odd miles of mainly motorway milage, but also spirited, back road, and 8 odd trackdays, with one easy lap to warm up and a lap to cool down with engine braking and no applied handbrake on stopping.

Most of us have the same, AP kit, so what is the difference?

tru, but they do have to be used hard to crack... and an Ultima is a very light car for such big AP brakes discs to get hot enough to crack on the road.
After all, how many other owners have had their AP's go like this?

Although the car has only covered 1600mls, we don't know that the discs were not second hand to begin with do we?

Second set of Porsche discs?

Let's stick to the thread peeps - what do we reckon on this lad's predicament. He's seen discs like this and wondered what other Ultimators experiences were. I took a photo of mine, and I've given treated them as told but with some stick!!

When and why did yours crack?

Another possibility to consider is as Lucky mentioned away from this thread, is whether that milage is indeed genuine or whether the odometer has been disconnected or broken at some point.(lets hope so!)

as you can see the bolts are also rusting, so the whole setup has been very hot several times.

Another possibility is that the pedals where not set up correctly, and it had a slight Brake pressure issue causing the discs to over heat and crack.....

But like you say could also be dodgy mileage.... would check the back edge of the Side Pods vents, as they get a lot of stone chips on High mileage cars.... Mine started to look peppered when I sold it..

^ Well off topic I know but, CLIVE!, How are you doing over there Bud, are things going OK?
Back on topic a little bit; Question; Clive, I know that you like your food but do you really expect us to believe that you have single handedly created a dish whilst overseas called 'peppered Ultima'?

I would say Lucky's look normal, mine have covered 10170miles and look very similar with no sign of cracking (after 7 trackdays). Although after Sunday they do currently have a slightly mottled appearance!
The AP bedding in procedure is quite involved I seem to remember, was it ever followed and if not can those cracks be the result?
