My starter motor is playing up more and more. This is even after a rebuild, but it now quite often is just heard to click and not spin at all. Hitting it with a big hammer helps but is a little embarrassing for an expensive car.

So now I am thinking of a replacement but what is it, anybody know? I have a G50/00 to SBC, starter fits from gearbox end, the current make is a Magneton but I am looking at something different like a Brise.

I used a porsche one (biggest they do) which as always proved 100% reliable.

But Andy had a 930 4 speed box, and they don't fit on a 5/6 speed I tried....

i remember someone using a toyota starter or something, cant remember where a read it though. might have been hear or on gt40s or something.

i think it depends what flywheel you have, you need to get the pitch angle and contact radius of the teath of the gears right.

Self specced and bits from Jeff Schwartz - I started earlier in the year before the factory even offered the option.

Peter knight has 'breathed' a bit on the engine and fitted Kinsler, uprated internals, Cam and rockers, MOTEC etc .Dyno results were 696 bhp and 618 ft/lb ;-)

Will be fully fitted in the car in a couple of weeks.

Lucky I did speak to you briefly at Fighting Talk - I was in a Corvette that day.

Feel free to PM me if you need more specifics

What the porsche G50 starter doesn't fit the porsche box? or doesn't fit the flywheel possition on an Ultima?

I guess it does depend on the setup you have inside the box, I of cause used the porsche clutch and ringgear as well which may well be different to the Ultima std setup.
