Ive been making enquiries with a few Gbox companies in the US requesting prices for G50/20 & getrag boxes. One jas offered a 996 GT2 box (6speed cable shift). Would this box fit ok with the Ultima chassis / brackets?
Cheers Dale

Hi Dale

Yes the 996 GT2 box also known as a G96/50 will fit into the ultima chassis. The rear mounting for this box is different so you would have to make new brackets to fit to the box that will meet up with the chassis brackets. Not a difficult job if you can weld or know someone who can. Are you using a LS or small block chevy engine. If you are using a SBC then I may be able to help as I am looking at one of these boxes myself and I will be making brackets to fit.

Hi Canam,
Yeah I will most probably be getting a SBC from Fastco. I'm in the early stages yet with car buying (I'm popping down to the factory this weekend...27th Oct, for a long chat and a good look round) but am trying to sort out options / prices in my head so I know where I'm going :-).

Probably the best Porsche box you can get IMO and its what I am using, it also usually comes with oil cooler and pump.... will fit straight onto the std G50 adapter so fitting shouldn't be a problem.

If you are concerned speak to Jeff as he uses this box in his Ultima's so can probably sell you the gearbox mounts etc.

The 996 GT2 box as I understand it is the G96/88. It may be the G96/50 as well. As stated before, the rear mounting for this box is different so you will have to make new bracket to fit to the box that will meet up with the chassis brackets. I have the G96/88 in my shop waiting to be installed in my GTR.

Please see attached photo provided to me by Peter (ultimaCZ).

These are the best porker boxes but please check for the one fault they have. Some jump out of second gear on over run at slow speed. All the parts are available from porsche for a rebuld and cost around £6k for all new internals.

They quoting a total of $11525 for a GT2 box ... this is fully rebuilt with inversion kit and LSD, Clutch and adaptor set-up, new flywheel, "sprung hub race clutch disc, pp, TO bearing, Ring gear, all harware and pilot, 1.8kw starter and shipping to Fastco (people Im thinking of getting the engine from)

G50/20 is $2500 less than the GT2

That sounds ok

I had a quote for $13K Aus for GT3 box alone, no clutch, starter or adaptors, as is no reconditioning. I’m not sure if that was the version with the oil cooler installed

A Standard reconditioned G50 was $7800 Australian, box only. Didn’t ask what was implied by reconditioned

They also had a defective 4wd 993 6spd for $7800 as well.

Prices in Australian dollars

I''ve got a freshly stripped and rebuilt G50/20 available if anyone is looking, it is in Oz at the moment, but shipping is not a problem.

What part of Oz are you in?? My Brother is coming across from Brisbane next year and bringing a LS motor with him for me and your gearbox might be worthwhile!
