Kwiky- question on Cockpit removal?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Need to check with you guys before I do this.....
About to have to take the pre-fitted cockpit off the chassis, and according to some build-sites I see that they take the doors off first.
Knowing that this particular moulding a somewhat unstable (with the narrow strip in the centre of the roof), I had planned to leave the doors in place, thus in theory giving a bit more rigidity to the whole structure whilst being removed. In addition, less work!
Anyone done this? ...or is there a good reason why it might not be a good idea?
cheers

If the doors are fitted then I assume the body is bonded in place.
I would remove the doors and get them out of the way as getting the body off could be a bit of a struggle. In any case the door latch will not IMO offer any significant structural rigidity. You will also have to be leaning inside to get the bottom of the dash to 'unclip' itself from the chassis bar behind it.

Hi Steve,
No actually it was a factory prefit, and the doors were fitted at the time.
Just felt that with the doors in place the cockpit would not flex (front-to-back) as much when lifted. As for the dash, and since it will need more that one person anyhow, I was thinking of getting inside myself to help ease the lip over whilst two other muscle-bound helpers lifted the unit up off the chassis?
Have I misunderstood the procedure?
Does the unit need to flex radically (at the narrow roof part) to be able to get over the dash rail?
Sorry for the questions but having never done this bit, I am hoping to understand what I am in fore before arranging the muscle!
cheers

Hi Keith
It is fairly easy to get the doors off all you have to do is reach inside the door pocket and undo the 13mm nuts on the end of the hinge and the rose joint at the top speaks for itself just dont let it spin (thanks Stig)as when its time to put it back it will be out of line.IMHO it would be a big pain in arse to try and fit your cockpit out with the doors on.

As Dan said, 2 nuts inside the door which will free a steel plate so wait for the clatter when you pull the door off the hinge.
Top hinge (rose joint) is removed with the door by simply removing the two screws holding the housing into the body. Again don't swivel the rose joint around as you will change the adjustment.
All this is done with the door wide open.
Undo the nuts first (clatter) but leave the door sitting on the hinge while you release the top.
