No Level, just drain it out and make sure you put 3.5 Litres back in.

Well for you simon I can recomend some second hand engine oil with some of those special 'Ultiman' iron filings in them..... and some added sand maybe!

For everyone alse make sure you use 3.5 litres of semi-synthetic and not redline or mobil 1, I'll hunt out a mail I got from the factory to confirm what they recomend.

I not normally this helpful...... I need to give mine an oil change today so I need to know anyway!

The best oil I have come across is Millers Oils CRX 80w90

www.millersoils.co.uk/MOTORSPORT_WORLD/6motorsport.ASP

Most, if not all Porsche places I have spoke to have said that this is the best oil for a G50. It is a bit tricky to find so you might need to mail order it. I cant remember the number of their retailer but if you give them a call they will be able to tell you.

I just bought 5 litres of Mobil 1 fully synthetic from Porsche while I was getting a new slave cylinder but apparently semi-synthetic is better.

Anyone want to buy it cheap?? GTRCLIVE also did the same So between us we should still have about two gallons

Hey Andy, maybe you could do with it to help you find those missing ponies alternatively you could try and hire a cattle hand who is used to real horsepower

Unfortunately, transmission oil is just like engine oil, almost a religion. Some will tell you that Swepco is great for the 911 (G50) and nothing else should be used.

The following represents information that I have collected from other Porsche owners and from personal experience over the years for filling my Porsche transaxles.

I currently use Redline MT-90 and find it acceptable on my 016 and G50 Porsche transaxles with Limited slip (LSD). If you have a LSD tranny, listen for chatter when you take off around a corner. If you have chatter and it doesn't disappear in about 100 miles, you'll have to add a little Redline LSD additive.

Add it 1 percent by volume, drive 100 miles or so. Do not use any more than necessary otherwise you'll be right back to slipping synchros plus you'll lose some of the LSD ability.

As you can surmise, I'm a fan of Redline MT-90 until some oil missionary with more information than zeal, converts me to something else.

There are a a bunch of Porsche 911 people (racers) that swear by Swepco 201 which is non synthetic and hard to come by - I bought mine from an industrial supplier and had to buy a large quantity because he only had large containers. There are others that swear by Mobil 1 and still others that swear by AMSOIL.

I've also used Swepco 201 for a number of years in G50 trannys but my climate (very cold) made me search for a freer flowing synthetic.

I've tried a bunch of different oils and what I found was either the LSD would chatter because of insufficient friction modifer in the oil, or I
couldn't downshift to first without being at a dead stop since the oils were too slippery and the synchros would not bite.

As an informational aside - Redline (surprisingly) provided their formulations as follows:

MT-90 is a 75-90 GL-4 with 1% friction modifier.

Redline 75-90 is a GL-5 with 6% friction modifier.

Redline 75-90 NS has no friction modifier.

I've heard Porsche changed their recommendation to GL-5, but I've never been able to find the tech bulletin stating this and since I don't know exactly what our
synchros are made out of, I'll continue to follow Redlines advice and stick with a GL-4 oil.

It may be an old wives tale, but there have been a lot of problems with industrial worm gear drives associated with using GL-5 vs GL-4.

That's my experience. Let me know what you eventually decide to do - best to find out for yourself - but experiment within reason - and report back.

The factory recomend semi synthetic 75/90.

Worth noting, they specifically recomend against using Redline fully synthetic.
