Audi Engine + Trans Dimensions

I have got an Audi V8 I can measure up for you, what exactly are you after ?

I'm guessing you are the same "Hilly" doing the Audi>Lotus swap Ive seen elsewhere on the WWW? - nice work!Hilly
Ive been searching the web, have found a few posts with very basic trans dims (GT40s.com), but nothing with full engine dims.
Ideally I'm looking for a 3D CAD model of an RS4 driveline.
Yeap, I am the very same......
Unfortunately I don't have any 3D CAD files, but here are some basic measurements :-
Total length (Audi V8 ABZ engine + 01X 6 speed gearbox) = 1200mm
Length of engine (front pulley to bell housing face) = 490mm
Length of 01X gearbox (bell housing to rear casing) =710mm
Max width of engine (across exhaust manifolds) = 760mm
Max height of engine (sump to idle air valve) = 660mm
Drive shaft position (front pulley to drive flange) =690mm (or from gearbox rear casing = 510mm)
Dry wieght of ABZ V8 = 180Kg
I have some photos and can take further measurements if you nee them.
So what is the project for the engine, Ultima maybe ?????

Is the ABZ V8 the engine used in the RS4, I thought it was the older 4.2?Unfortunately I don't have any 3D CAD files, but here are some basic measurements :-

Nope.... done that.... planning my next project...all I know at this stage is that its going to have an Audi engine and a lot of aluminium in it mixed with a bit of Carbon fibre. I have a pile of sketches for ideas, the next steps are ACAD modelling (mainly for suspension and chassis) and a scale model for shape. Im pretty handy with Autocad in 2D and 3D but its really only good for inorganic shapes, to do body curves I'm going to try modelling in clay. I'm also currently messing with 3DMax and Solidworks as I may go back to one of those after working with the clay.
The plan is to put together a load of ideas floating around in my head, learn a bit more advanced CAD work, learn a bit of modelling, then learn bodywork skills. I had a mate do a bit of fabwork on the Ultima (exhaust and a bit of alloy welding)... I bought him an English wheel as a trade, he's quite a handy fabricator and has built a few cool bikes with handmade alloy bodywork.
I live in Hong Kong where space is at a premuim, I am one of a tiny percentage of people who have a private garage....I stumbled accross a place for sale with a garage when I was in the process of buying the Ultima kit. NOw that I have built the Ultima I want to get a bigger shop, but as noted space is at a premuim... so I am currently looking for expressions of interest to get a bunch of guys together and rent a workshop and fill it with tools. It will be a car builder's/restorer's club with a joining fee and a monthly fee.... this will give me the space and the tools to build something from scratch.
Ive had quite a bit of interest in the Ultima, its the first kit to be built in Hong Kong for a long time. There's a bunch of guys out there that'd be keen to build a car, but dont have the space, most people live in apartments and only have a car park, not a garage...
At this stage its a pile of sketches and a plan... from initial reactions I think the club idea will work, worst case I may move the Ultima and build in my garage... but I have a scratch-built car bugging the crap out of me and I have to let it out.

The ABZ was used in the A8 1995 - 2000 so differs from the unit in the RS4 in that it uses timing belts instead of chains and is therefore a little longer (about 50mm).
As it happens I am planning my next project also, again using a mid mounted Audi V8 in a small 2 seater.........

So how is the Audi v8 Esprit? As it happens I am planning my next project also, again using a mid mounted Audi V8 in a small 2 seater.........

Had a good trawl through your thread which made very interesting reading. Complements on your engineering skills and courage, you have created quite a unique machine.
How does it handle and what's the performance like?

I don't want to hi-jack this thread so I'll keep the reply short.
The Audi V8 Esprit (The Mutant) is going very well actually.
The V8 engine only weighs about 30Kg more than the old Lotus lump so it is very hard to tell the difference apart from extra shove when the throttle us mashed
For the full story have a looky here :- http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=96...
Even though it took a year and much head scratching to complete it was well worth it.
