Wiper scratching windscreen

My windscreen is being replaced today and I am keen to eliminate those scratches that arise from the wiper blade scrapping down the steep screen edge.
I had bought one of those special wiper blades that has a spring strip rather that the multi-Y legged arrangement but I think that will only be worse now I have looked at it.
So does anyone have any tricks or do we all suffer from screen scratching?

I spoke to Ultima as well and Andy suggested bending the little tab that the blade fixes on to, this allows the angle of the blade on the screen to be adjusted. It can then be made to be more upright on the passenger (parked) side without the plastic tabs scratching, may give this a go as I haven't got time for much else!

I asked about wiper performance a while back as I was having problems with the Zafira that I use to cart my bike around. (note I don’t have an Ultima – Yet)
I use to clean my windscreen with an Amonia based glass cleaner and would add a little bit to the washer bottle. I have since changed to using some white vinegar. The blade now moves a lot freer across the window and there appears to be less flex in the mechanism and wiper arm due to the reduced friction on the screen.

Rainex is not a fix it's just a get you buy....
A Friend of mine and Andy GTT has come up with a fix for this. It basically a mechanism that as the blade goes over the screen it tilts the blade so its A lot closer to 90 degrees from the screen over the full travel.
I hated the original setup, as I dare anyone to use the wiper on fast in a down poor, as it just falls over on both sides of the screen, scratching it to hell....
The angle of attach of the Main wiper stem will not cure the problem completely but it will help..... the screen is just to curved....

This statement worries me a bit. I am fairly certain that they would test this if I was to try and get it registered in Australia. So I thought I would check all the photos that I have of the Australian registered Ultimas. All but the silver sports competing in the Targa have a single wiper arm instead of the dual arm. This results in the arm being at a different angle relative to the plane of the screen.I wonder would altering the length of the secondary arm or the angle of its pivot have any benefit in the “wobbler arm”
I was lucky that I applied Rain-X to my screen! My wiper mod did not work and I ran out of time to test it and just hoped it would not rain. Arh, but it did rain and I didn't need wipers, instead I just watched beads of fine mist and droplets of water roll off the screen - lucky, but back to the drawing board.
If I remember correctly, I saw a wiper blade available some time back that was moulded with multiple rubber blades adjacent to the main one on each side thus when the carrier was at an angle it would still never touch the screen, and would wipe effectively?
If I am wrong, then this would be the simple answer, wouldn't it?
Now, where are the manufacturers!

Hi Guys.
As clive says i do have a solution that will solve all your problems.
But i am building a Minotaur so have so many problems that i havent had time to develope
it into a working model yet, just designed it using inventor 3d moddeling so i know it works. its a pentograph wiper but as it travels across screen it also twists the wiper so it keeps blade at 90 deg to screen.
what i need to get hold of is an ultima wiper motor and blade etc, then i could modify it to work properly. any thoughts or prices etc would be usefull, anyone preperade to flog one for development and in return first dibs on the new design ...let me know Clive can vouche for the fact it will work

I remember you discussing this earlier this year. Have you had time yet to develop your idea? I am about to order my windscreen, so would like to solve the scratching issue if possible before using the wipers. Almost every car at Stoneleigh had scratches on the windscreen.... :-(
