buying/selling an Ultima
Discussion
Hi everyone
I would like to research into the buying and selling of Ultimas
Could people give me their veiws on prefered colour and model? If you were to buy an Ultima from Ultima Sports Lmt. then you would have to wait for about three months to have one made. Do you think people would buy them if i had some ready and waiting so the delay was cut out.
Do you think brand new Ultimas would sell?
I would appreciate anyones veiws on this.
Also in hours, i would like to know the time scale it has taken for people to build their Ultima.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

I think they're heavily spec dependent and as such a pre-built new one that you couldn't spec wouldn't be a popular choice, the other side is (i presume) you'll be building them and as such they won't know what the quality of workmanship is compared to the factory.
Then there's always the case, people like building them themselves.
All IMHO obviously.

would you be offering a factory warranty? if not then I suspect its a no go as it'll be a requirement for a £60k cash outlay (for a medium spec car factory built).
But my main concern would be spec, pretty much everyone I know has built their car a little differently and thats one of the cars appeals.
Worth finding out how many cars the factory have built for customers and also investigate the market in countries were it is very hard to register a self build car.

We tend to build ours from £50K +. I think the Factory charge £70+ for similar spec????
I'm calcin' this as I write, but let's say 500hrs @ £20. That's £10K, and I'd say the Factory advantage is worth well over the £10K difference.
I reckon they've got their turn keys right and their kits spot on.
IMHO it's just their marketing that needs a tweek......that is if they need to sell more cars than they do.
Who knows?
Not entirely sure what your post is trying to find out, but if your asking would peeps pay £10-£15K less for a non factory car, well:
a) I don't thing they would (or should)
and
b) Where are you gonna get yer parts from???
Best of luck though. In what ever you or your pal are thinking

Hiya Lucky P
You wrote "we tend to make".....do you mean people personally?
Yeah i looked at the Ultima site and seen it would prob be in the region of £47000 to buy everything to build a GTR. The factory charges £20000 aprox to build it. So yes, its just under the £70 k mark. But i realise that you have to wait about 18 months just now to have one built for you.
My questioning all came about because i know someone who wants a GTR but are really impatient and dont want to wait that long for a new one. I also know someone else who is interested in building them up himself.
The person that wants to build it up was discussing it with me and wanted to look into the market, as im sure there must be alot of people who dont want to wait as long for a factory built one.
I just thought i'd ask peoples opinion on it.
So again thanks to you for your comments

Oh, and the parts would come from the same place as everyone elso. Ultima, and the engine from America.

If that is so, then I find it hard to understand how you will compete.Regards
Also being in competition with the factory may mean they are unwilling to supply you with parts.
The only way I can see this working is if the Factory either no longer wish to produce turn-key cars or have more orders than they can handle.

I'll line 'em up, you kick'em in!!
I'd buy a factory LS7 like a shot, if I was in the market.
I know you have to start somewhere, but IMHO, until you've built half a dozen or so, you really wouldn't be up to a) decent speed to make money and b) able to offer a product having benefit of the MASSIVE advantage of experience
But ATEOTD, it's the aftersales service that would make me wait for a factory built product, and having the likes of Andy there what seems like 24hrs a day, that would swing it for me.
But you maybe have some other USP that you haven't let onto yet....so come on den, spill dem beans. Sell it to me baby!!
