Can anyone provide me with contact information to a good UK insurance company and maybe some guidance?
My GTR (450BPH) is finished by the factory in the next few weeks.
I am getting a quote already form Footman James, but am not sure of the specific things to get better price.
- Ultima GTR, factory built, Chevy 6.3L 450BPH
- UK Registration
- EU driving license, unrestricted
- 47yrs old, no convictions
- No idea about which immobiliser
- Driven April - September, a lot in the EU (10,000mi)
- Garaged
- Will accept £50.000 full coverage
- No track use
Any ideas?
Might add: Never found an answer about the window laminate for the side windows. It would sure keep heat from the sun down inside the cockpit.

Hi Robert. I am also with Footman James, and I am impressed. Things which may be of interest:
1) They gave me a good discount for having a tracker fitted - basically the premium saving was the same as the price on the tracker, so effectively FJ paid for my tracker, a CarBug model - also excellent as you track your own car.
2) I also have specced a Clifford G4 for £350 which is Thatcham approved.
3) I am waiting to see if I can fit a removeable steering wheel boss, as this was also mentioned by FJ as qualifying for a discount.
4)If you are one penny over £50k of cover, they will hit you much harder. You are better off agreeing a total loss value with the option to buy back the car as parts or salvage, but pre-agreed if they write it off.
5)Join the Ultima Club, they asked me if I was in it.
Good luck with the car, I bet you can't wait! I am in the same situation, as my car is nearly ready, but being finished by GTR Clive as my new workload is rediculous.
Thanks Simon. Footman James just quoted me £2,646 annually.
Value: £50,000 / Unlimited mileage / insured-only
Excess: £1,000 / comprehensive
I think there is some negotiating to do. Also I am awaiting one from another company.
Footman James says the best is:
£1,095 per year at 6,000 miles. The killer is size of engine (6300cc - the factory 450bhp) and miles, not alarm, postcode (SG8). Age 47 (too old for an Ultima?)
Anybody with Footman James at about 10,000 miles and under £1,000???

That's quite steep! You might want to have a look at the insurance survey that the Ultimaclub did a year or so ago. The numbers were nothing like as big for similar cover.
I got a quote of £1088 a few months back from FJ as an under-30, living in Edinburgh, no current fast/sportscar experience and £45k insured value. Which is pretty reasonable I thought.
Perhaps it's as Simon says and the £50k triggers some nasty threshold in their sums. Could you get away with £49k as the value?

Just got my renewal from MSM and they are hitting me for £680 this year....
Good record on quality of service from recent Ultima accidents as well.
Similar value.
500bhp engine.
31yrs old
Garaged
Thatcham cat 1 alarm
NCB coppied from other car.
And they know I'm a complete nutter!
I'd recommend them to anyone!
Simon. I have a Toad on my Ultima and I really like it, I have the Clifford G4 on my cossie and I hate it.... constant false alarms at my old house with no apparent cause (except the neighbours night time toys!).

Well, I have to say insurance for the Ultima is not easy at 47, no convictions or accidents and having owned a Hennessey Stealth and slower cars like the Zagato Alfa and Lotus.
MSM refused to quote me based upon my having an EU drivers license and my Ultima being left hand drive (or so I strongly suspect).
Footman James looks the best at 4,500 mi per year, £50,000 value, at £1,095 annually. They were actually more friendly on the phone too, which makes me spend cash easier.
Of course, I drove the Hennessey 3 years with only liability insurance. It was a gamble that paid, but the Ultima should have insurance in the UK.
Ready or not, it is on the road 1 September!

Everyone has different circumstances so comparison is difficult.... But
My cosworth (who's 9yrs NCB was coppied to Ultima) was quoted as a renewal of £1089 full comp but with a value of ten times less than the Ultima, and around half the power to weight!
Porsche boxter S is costing over £1000 again with full NCB and a value £10k less than the Ultima.
So to me the Ultima is very cheap to insure!

I hope the Footman James comes through. I also have to agree that the Ultima is cheap for the performance.
The Hennessey (475BHP TT) was quoted at £4,000 per year, unlimited mileage, left hand drive, and continental wide insurance.
That is about 1/3rd more than the full unlimited from Footman James. So I am convinced! 1 September.

Just to keep this updated, Graham Sykes put it through to Norwich Union and they also turned it down soley because of engine size. No problem with the left-hand drive it seemed. Norwich is probably to straight and mainline to insure an Ultima anyway. Again, Footman James seems to be boss.
I have just taken out Insurance through MSM.
£724 - fully comp including European break down cover. Agreed £50,000 value.
39 years old
6 points on my licence
Restricted to 3000 miles a year (This can be upped at anytime - £72 for additional 2000 miles)
Thatcham cat 1 Alarm
5.7 litre 500bhp
Garaged at Home Address - (Post Code made a big difference)
I have full no claims on other vehicle (Not transferred but they did need proof to show them that I have it on your other insured vehicle)
They also needed verbal confirmation that I had driven other high performance vehicles on the road.
Very Helpfull and you can pay over 3 months if you wish.

Your MSM policy sounds a dream.
Which insurance company actually holds the policy? MSM is just the broker. Some insurance companies said that if I can get a policy number, they will match it. Any help here?
Unfortunately, it all came down to the left-hand drive. That is why MSM did not quote. I doubt they would have asked if my voice didn't have an American accent. I could try to put insurance in my British wife's name and get me as a second driver.
I wanted the left hand drive since long drives will be mainly on the continent and it is safety for my retirement back in the USA. It is not exactly going to be my daily driver -- wish they took that view into account.
