Drive shaft problem
Discussion
I have been fitting some new cv boots on my GTR but one of the Cv joints seems faulty, i have taken the drive shaft off the cv joint but with it removed if you twist the internals of the joint through an acute angle all the bearings fall out one by one. I can put it back together but it doesnt seem good that it falls to bits??
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is a phone call to the factory for a replacement the answer?? the DS has only done 2000 miles which doesnt seem good!!

they will fall out, put plenty of cv grease on them to stop them falling out while your putting it back together I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is a phone call to the factory for a replacement the answer?? the DS has only done 2000 miles which doesnt seem good!!

they didnt on the other side??
erm i cant answer that, but if you twist the internals of the joint through an acute angle they will fall out, i think thats how they get in there in the first place, but i may be wrongall i know is when i replaced one of my boots i had the same problem and i put it back together and it worked fine and no problems

Sorry if this is a bit of a hijack, but how reliable are the standard drive shafts with high horsepower? I know it probably depends on how you drive the car, but my engine should be putting out around 650bhp and 680 Lb.ft.. Have you found the standard shafts OK for this? If not, what have you used instead?
Many Thanks,
Martin

For street and track driving they are probably fine. I did finally break my half shaft at the drag strip. I am only running about 513 rwhp on drag radials, but standing starts are hard on the drive train. Just ordered new half shafts and axles from Jeff, I'll post pictures when they come in.

Not wanting to hijack, but can those in the know tell us the trick to keeping the UJ grease in the joints and not over the rest of the engine bay? I mean by flicking out of the jointed areas 'tween shaft and UJ.
Pete
This does not happen on mine but if it is a problem then I would assemble the shaft with a thin coating of Hylomar on the mating faces.Pete
