Not at all. There are some great engine builders out there and all have their supporters.
Several companies out there such as Fastco, Nelson Racing & Jeff Schwartz in the states produce some incredible and top class engine builds and can offer anything from the very affordable basic small block engine, through to some truly exotic engine builds. Then there are the UK custom builders who will also build to your exact requirements like Peter Knight.
More and more people are experimenting with a number of different suppliers and engines, from BMW V12 to Audi 4.2 engines.
The resale is really governed by the build quality and features. The engine does play a part of course, but mainly as a selling point if its power output is over 500bhp (which I think most do prefer when choosing a car).
Best thing is to shop around and judge for yourself which engine builder gives you the most for your money for what you need. Dont potentially pay more than you need to, because you think the factory recommendation is the only way to go - its not..

That is a point I have pondered since reading your earlier, now deleted, thread.
If it was my money I would rather have the engine built and dynoed by a reputable UK builder. Having read this forum for some time it appears that a good number of people have had problems with AS engines so, all things considered, I would not be inclined to pay any premium.
I do think in time LS7 engined Ultimas will command much better resale prices than gen 1 engined ones.

My thoughts exactly. I got my turnkey LS7 from Mike of Boost Performance (07973 341532), having had quotes from many players Mikes was IMO the best, is UK based & comes complete with rolling-road dyno work!

Anyway, ask LuckyP (or not so lucky) about his AS engines, which all seem to have died on him, whereas my PK engine was bomb solid all day at the track!
I think we have to realize, and any potential owner/builder does as well, is that AS is NOT an OEM manufacturer of Chevy V8 engines.
They are purely a 3rd party engine builder, and one who I've never seen listed in any of the 'small block' line up competitions, ever. They just happend to have a commercial agreement with the factory, which is to me perfectly reasonable and they offer warranties as well, but is not one that makes them special in my books.
If I was doing it all over again, I'd still pick a local reputable bulder over a guy on another continent anyday of the week, whereas If I lived close by AS, I'd almost certainly have considered them...

Yes, I am selling to get something a bit more practical... Ive had my fun and its time to pass it on. The reason for the question was that I agreed a price with a buyer and he came to collect the car. When he noticed the engine in it wasnt an AS one, he said that he could only offer me £2k less than the agreed price as he would have a problem selling it on
I told him that the engine shouldnt affect the resalability of an Ultima but he wouldnt have it... I had a day off work and put 6 months tax on the car especially. Your right about it testing my patience! Anyway he left without it

Napier Racing in Coventry built it (Steve Napier). Interesting that you should say he was trying it on, thats exactly what I thought. The missus even suggested that he may have been a dealer, posing as a private buyer... shes not usually wrong... (dont let her see this)

Deffinatelt trying it on there....Just ask for example, any of the Swartz customers on here if they would swop for an AS. I suspect we know the answer to that.....
