Stig - how come??

.....yours is the final word on a thread that was still running and likely to die its own death very soon anyway.
I personally think as a moderator you should not have your say, then close a thread that is still on the boil. Close it if its getting nasty or personal or whatever... but this thread was not, and you closed it with a biased opinion that you may have noticed was not shared by all.
"But that's not the point I was trying to make (again), this to do with the affect on re-sale of non 'factory approved' components, not just engines.
And with that, I think the thread's run its course "
... and before that you posted
"Second: This isn't about BUILDING an Ultima - it's about BUYING A USED Ultima and the affect that the first point has on its value."
Well... it is a thread about building an Ultima to those who are reading that are going to build one (not buy one) and are looking at non-factory options for engines or otherwise.
I for one wouldnt give a toss about whether the engine (or any other part of the car) was factory or not, I'd be more interested in the quality of the build and the components used... in fact I would be MUCH less likely to buy a stock spec car (or leave it that way if I did)... and I am sure there are others that feel the same.... so its not really reasonable for you to shut a thread with a statement in support of an "all factory car" as though it is gospel..... when there's plenty of people who feel otherwise.
This forum is a place where a lot of people come to watch and make decisions about building / buying Ultimas. The debate over factory vs non-factory is not something that needs to be policed. These are self built supercars ..... MANY of the people here buy/build because they want something different.
If (as you say) you were getting bored making your point, you could have stopped posting, stopped reading or whatever and let it die a natural death.
If it was upsetting you that it was getting off track (i.e. away from the issue of who bought the factory car) then you shouldnt have posed yourself, and definitely not the last post before closing it.

Well said Crafty!!! My thoughts as well, it pissed me off that it was just shut down because Stig had had enough, i was just getting warmed up!!
I understand Stig, Lucky and a few others feel very loyal to the factory (i as everyone else have nothing against the Factory, it is impossible for them to please everyone)but i think the majority of us think the way we do not the way they do?? It isnt a them and us situation we are all linked by our love for Ultimas but it doesnt mean we have to all think/act the same??

Here here Crafty! I agree with all you said. Well done that man!
I thought it was a bit cheeky of Stig to have the last say and then shut it down!

.......The point is that with an American Speed engine If something goes wrong with it you can go striaght back to American Speed and get whatever you need for it, no questions and theyll know the engine and the history of it, with a privateer builder or a home built engine you dont have that peace of mind............
I don't agree with this line of thinking at all! I have far more peace of mind knowing that I built my engine than just some chap in America. I know every part of my engine and have a spread sheet of all parts used and there numbers. If someone bought my car they would have a lot more information and just a dyno sheet.
But each to there own I guess!

It wasn't closed because I'd 'had enough' - it was closed because it was going no-where and I'd said as much earlier in the thread.I understand Stig, Lucky and a few others feel very loyal to the factory (i as everyone else have nothing against the Factory, it is impossible for them to please everyone)but i think the majority of us think the way we do not the way they do?? For the record, I have respect for the factory, but no specific loyalty (not going to do me much good after all is it as I no longer own an Ult!). The point was...
..oh forget it

I'm off for a lie down

....well here we go again
C'mon guys...opinions are perfectly acceptable whoever voices them, provided they are not dressed up as gospel, are measured and are not intended to upset or denegrate.
Everyone naturally speaks from their own point of view and experience, and that is how it should be. We all are here for similar reasons, we love Ultimas... How they are built and what goes into them is a matter of personal preference and learning.
Life would be so boring if we all did the same!
...so lets all play nice!
OLD GIT - Keith!

well said Crafty i,m with you but in truth if you think about it its good marketing to tell every builder/buyer that the best cars are factory built and self builds that use entirly factory parts ,and to try a devalue cars that use non factory parts imo !!!
Stig as moderator has the power to close any thread to be fair this is the first time he has done so just a shame he did so because he was bored and felt we did not "get it" !!! after all healthy debate can be good fun !!!
