Clutch Alignment
Discussion
Evening all, i have a triple plate clutch on my car (no im not just boasting), which means the pair of universal aligners ive borrowed arent long enough to align. anyone got a decent aligner maybe with a splined shaft so i can line up my lovely triple plates. Not necesarily looking for a 'borra' but just make and retailer details would do.
Thanks guys.

Hi Dave
I also have a triple plate clutch that I hope to be fitting over the Easter break along with my new box. I am using an old sawn-off input shaft to align mine. The 23 spline input shaft is the same as a Ford so they are not that hard to find. If you have problems finding a tool or old input shaft then send me a mail. This is my new clutch! It's a triple plate organic rated at 900lbs.

Regards Dave

Guys Could you enlighten the unwashed out here, that are not aware of this setup. Who makes it? how much? what advantage? Thanks in advance. Lee
Hi Lee The reason that I have gone this way is due to the torque that my engine is making. It's making over 700lbs of torque and the clutch setup with my G96 Getrag could not hold all that torque and was slipping on my last dyno session. I now have a G96-50 and so I needed a new clutch setup anyway. There is no advantage to it! My clutch is made by Super Clutch in the UK and costs around £700.
Regards Dave
Put the clutch on but dont do up the bolts (Plates just easy to slide), slide the gearbox on, then partialy do up the bolts on the clutch though any hole you have in the Bellhousing. Turn the flywheel around useing a driver, tightening as many bolt as you can just to nip the plates then remove the gearbox carefully and torque the bolts up properly.... worked for me any times.......
Also works on any Porker clutch.....

I used a tilton triple plate, but found it was a case of either stalling the engine or leaving two black lines every time i pulled away from stand still. They were metal plates though which are worst for "slip" IE none. I changed to a twin plate normal material and its a lot better. Would be interested to hear what its like living with a triple plate like this.
I came away from the factory set up when I had 'spinage' issues at Santa Pod and went for a SPEC solution stage 2+:
http://www.specclutch.com/
It's the std Sachs cover plate uprated with SPEC springs with a carbon/Kevlar friction material.
Trouble was that it gripped like mad and made town driving a real chore (lots of judder). 2nd gear starts were a no-no, but on track and standing starts it was superb.
Now I'm going for the same cover plate with the organic disc from their stage one range. Hope to rediscover everyday drivability with the added bonus of high clamping pressure.
All the talk of these tripple plates is making my wallet finger twitch though

Spoke to the Superclutch guys ar Stonleigh (Race Retro) last weekend. I was looking at the same unit with the organic material... Did you also use their hydraulic release bearing? They are about £270, but look really nice...
Would be interested to hear how it performs on the road as I will have similar torque hopefully out of my 434.
Does this fit straight to the standard Ultima flywheel setup?
Cheers,
Mart

I am using a bespoke flywheel and ring gear with this clutch. I am using a HRB but not from Super Clutch. Have a look at my website for more info or send me a mail. Here is a pic of how the flywheel, clutch and ring gear go together. All up it weighs in at 9.4kg compared to 16.5kg with my old setup! It's an easy fit into a normal G50 but has been a lot of work to get it into my G96-50. The bellhousing is smaller on the G96-50.

Hi Dave your setup looks the same as I fitted from GD using there center release as well. its a bit heavy so looking at changing the master cylinder bore size or going to the gym!I am using a bespoke flywheel and ring gear with this clutch. thanks for the replies guys.
im going to try clives (cheap and convenient) method at the weekend and if that doesnt work ........ dave, simon, pete look out for my email, although that thing youve got Pete, looks rather like those 'sex change dilation things' that hospitals use ....... you sure you havent got a can-am!!!!!!!
Dave, snap with the clutch, ive been informed that the triple plate is a bit lighter on the left leg as well. have you gone for the hydraulic thrust bearing as well?
cheers
