Paddle Shift G50!!!
Discussion
Approx $3500-4000..depending on options.....
currently the clutch must still be used .
There is a cool pre-selector function though...so the box will auto shift once the clutch is depressed...(over simplified but you get the idea.)
Blaine is the salesman to deal with....but he is not an applications engineer

I have often toyed with the idea of a sequential shift and have decided that one day, a little further down the line, I would like to fit a 6 speed box with a stick shift, ( push forward to change down and pull back to change up ), and the reason for going this way rather than paddles is simple; Paddles = track, stick = road. I have buttons on the spokes of the steering wheel for indicators right and left, and high beam at the bottom of the middle spoke. It is very difficult to use these buttons in any situation where you may have to remove your hands from the wheel at all.

You can convert H boxes to sequential with some rudimentary mechanics - you can buy a kit for subaru boxes for around £700 I'm told.WRT the paddle conversion though, can you not get a flappy paddle box yet that can be used instead of the G50? none of the Porsches use a flappy paddle?

I was looking at that myself using a Seqshift like the one in Peter's car
... there's some notes here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
The correct shift pattern for a G50 is the VW model (EUR1,100) at the bottom of this page http://www.sqsracing.com/index.php?load=katalog&am...
The Seqshift needs 2xcable inputs, so for a G50 you need a cable mechanism on the box, like the one posted at the top of this page (Mastershift are unlikely to sell separately), or the one by Autodynamics below (from memory GBP900?)

Just to quote myself
are there no commonly available paddle transaxles yet? (by commonly, obviously not but at least "available"
. That sequential info on the G50 looks interesting, but it does still need a clutch pedal.Porsche have one called the 'Tiptronic' its a semi automatic and can be switched to driver control so the paddle shifters can be used.
It has been available in the 911 and 993 but I'm not sure its a 'goer' in an Ultima, the consensus of opinion on this forum think its a bit 'Girly', I asked about it about 6 months ago and got slam-dunked

is the trpitronic box not a conventional auto with the option for manual intervention???It has been available in the 911 and 993 but I'm not sure its a 'goer' in an Ultima, the consensus of opinion on this forum think its a bit 'Girly', I asked about it about 6 months ago and got slam-dunked

Girly - well that's a matter of opinion. I'd be happy with one to get rid of the gearstick and clutch which are becoming somewhat redundant. Moving forward n all that... Don't often here F1 drivers referred to as girly

I asked the factory about fitting the tiptronic Porsche box in an Ultima but I was told the gearbox is inverted when it's installed and the fluid would run out!!!
As for Auto/Tiptronics been girly that's a bit of a sweeping statement, I prefer an auto, much easier in traffic, and having injured my left knee as a kid having an auto makes stop start driving easier, I've seen threads on the Jaguar forums regarding changing gearboxes in XJR and XKR's for manuals, for what benefit? I've used the auto gearbox on all the auto's i've had like a semi automatic, manually changing gear when I wanted to, the real benefit was not having to mess about with a clutch pedal it never impeded the car's performance or handling so long as you matched the gear change to the revs and in my XJR it was an absolute joy.

I dont think they work upside down..... Boxter one might work - but only for limited power.... probably go fine in a canam
Quit it with the sweeping bloody Can-Am statements(wish I'd bought a GTR). I'd break one in pieces in an instant!!

One small flaw in your logic... the Spyder / CanAm models are not convertibles (the hankerchief that passes for a CanAm hood hardly qualifies it as a convertible)!
They are however a good bit lighter than the boat-anchor GTR's!
PS - The fastest cars in motorsport don't have roofs!
