Vertical play in steering rack
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
Noticed a couple of days ago that there is about 3/16" vertical movement in the bearing in the steering rack (where the column attaches). This is something new, and has only happened since I have re-installed the top steering column.
I used a rubber mallet to knock the top column into the UJ. Could this had damaged the rack?
It's all brand new and has not yet been used. I adjusted the large 'plug' in the centre of the rack which has helped a bit, but I can still see the bearing moving...
Factory were very helpful, saying they would fix in pre-SVA inspection, but I would like to know what the problem is... Has anyone taken an ultima rack apart? If so is there adjustment for this bearing? The centre section is going on next week, so it would be a lot easier to fix before then... As it is, it will definately fail the SVA.
Many Thanks,
Mart
