Ultima Spyder..
Discussion
Hi guys, just wondering if someone could lend a hand.
I've been looking at ulitma's for a while now so i can have a weekend toy, and i noticed that there is a blue ultima spyder for sale in the classified section. I'm 6"3 and never been in one before, but i think they look fantastic. Does anyone know anything about it? is it a good price? What should i look for when buying?
I must say, i'm a little weary of buying a car with no roof, but it looks like it shouldn't be too bad as long as the rain/cold/snow/sleet/stones stay away when i'm out in it.
Any advice greatly appreiciated..
Thanks

Having had a spyder for 10 years now........ I guess I can speak with some authority! Bit of a story here...... I built a spyder because I have never had a "sports" car with a roof, but also found the sports (pre GTR) to be a bit cramped for me - I am 6ft 4 inch tall. And with a crash hat on I just don't fit - even with the lowered floor, so for me it was the spyder.
Interesting point is - years ago when visiting the factory when Ted had the Can-am on the drawing board he was convinced that he would sell more can-ams than the GTR. (He said his favorite was always the spyder) but surprisingly they haven't sold that many.
If I was buying today I would try to stretch to a can-am only because it seems to always sodding rain in england! The can-am does have the "winter" kit of large screen and cloth roof, the spyder DOES NOT and it CANT be fitted.
Having said that I have done Lemans in REAL rain - had about 2 inches of water in the floor for most of the trip (drain holes are a MUST!) But if your dressed for the part, IE crash hat and wet weather gear its fine.
Would suggest you try one, and at speed. The top of your head (nose upwards) will be blown away whilst driving - but it is great fun when the sun is out, then there is nothing to beat it! I will be at goodwood tomorrow if your around, you're welcome to see if you "fit" in my spyder. Re the one for sale, its been there a while so you might get it "cheap?" Hope my comments help......
Good luck anyway.

Kevin Keegan perms...Hairdressing was more macho back in the day

PS - (I think the Spyder is the best looking of the Ultima models by a country mile)
I Agree funnily enough!

How many hairdressers do you think would be prepared to ruin their 'do' by wearing a helmet, or would expose their carefully coiffure'd locks to the raging wind-blast.
NONE - that's how many!
Ultima Spyder... it's not for girls (or hairdressers!).
