Hi,

On the advise of Lucky P (many thanks) I am posting this here.

I have a 1988 Porsche G50 short nose box, G50001 J04078, which I intend to use in a kit car. I have no idea on the gear selection for this; the shaft appears to move in and out to three positions. I believe it should then rotate, which it does not seem to want to do, to select other gears and reverse. Can anyone advise on what positions select what gears.

Regards

Nick

You may struggle to go across the gait by hand and may need some kind of leverage to 'twist' the bar....

As Andy said you will need some sort of lever (mole grip)

All this is looking on the end of the shaft.
The three positions you describe call away, neutral, back.
This is the position the 'box is designed to spring too.
Fit your mole grip level and pointing to the right.

Level, away = 3rd
Level, back = 4th
Down, away = 2nd
Down, back = 1st
Up, away = 5th

mine is 6 speed so 6th is up, back but this may be reverse on the 5speed
On mine reverse is even further down and back.

Be very careful with this as you may damage the selectors if heavy handed.
