Hi to all,
Having been reading this forum religiously for months, I am now able to post a thread having had the forst 8 stages of my Ultima GTR delivered at the end of May.

I had been looking to build a kit car for a while but could not decide on which one and almost went with a Cobra replica before seeing the Ulima in a magazine and knew this was the one. I am involved in motor sport as I have a company which supplies adhesives & sealants to the kit car/motor sport industry. This takes me to various exhibitions which is where I got an appetite to build a car myself.
The car looks and sounds amazing, definitely made the right choice.

I plan to have a build diary through my website if anyone is interested in my progress. I have family in Tazmania where I believe an event is held called Targa Tazmania, (A few Ultimas take part) my family over there love the Ultimas also, so its a good way for them to keep up to date with my build.

Anyway, enough introducing myself and onto my first question.
I am making progress with the alloy panels and my thoughts are that I want to fit a good quality leather interior to cover all the panels. What are your thoughts? I know the factory tend to leave the alloy panels on show but for me i'm not keen on that idea. Has anyone else fitted a full interior? and at what stage would you recommend this be fitted? Obviously the earlier the better but I dont want to fit to early.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome.
The few of us who have covered the ali panels have tended to use carpet but I see no reason not to use leather. You will need to use some sort of backing be it foam or perhaps felt to hide the rivet heads and also because leather or vinyl on a hard surface will show the imperfections of the adhesive layer.

If you do use leather on the ali you will almost force yourself to upholster the whole of the interior where using carpet does not have quite the same effect.

I'm not a fan of the full interior on the Ultima as it does not sit well with its spiritual roots.

Leather on all the panels?
Won't they show rapid signs of wear? the footwells in particular.

Good choice about the car, though thumbup Should help promote your business smile

Thanks for the response,
I have seen one or two (Ultima's over the pond I think that have really good quality leather interiors). I would only be looking to cover side panels, luggage, etc. Not the foot wells.
I appreciate the Ultima way is to leave the alloy panels as they are. Just something I am thinking about at this stage and looking for opinons and experiences.
Cheers

Hi

I've carpeted the floor and walls. I have a getrag box so have also covered the gear cable/handbrake cover with leather to match the dash. I think I got the leather from the factory to match the dash. I fitted the wall carpet just before finally fixing the body, but that would really depend on how you want it to look.
