I went round the Nordschleife with Rickability in his 585 AS powered Ultima GTR a few weeks ago and it was extremely fast. It is not until you actually get out onto the ring that the reality of claimed or proven times bear any meaning. The whole experience is so totally involving that times become irrelevant and it is driven home that the 'time to beat' is no more than a marketing tool. On the day and very much depending upon what else is on track with you + the fair amount of accidents taking place it is an achievement to complete an unhindered lap, let alone the fastest one ever posted by your chosen marque.
I plan to make a visit later in the year but I most certainly will not be going in the GTW, ( the fact that it is inoperative at the moment is not the main reason ), but because on a track/road that is over 12 miles long and has 157 turns, right and left as well as opposite cambers, up hill, down hill, blind crests, switchbacks, banked sections, hairpins, double apex bends and so much more, it really does need to be learned and respected with at least 50 laps being completed before a mild attack is even considered, and this is why a fast time is really the most irrelevant fact that you will ever need to be concentrating on, unless of course your name is Dirk Shoysman

Yes, they do, you simply can not be 100% committed if you have other road users to contend with. Usually from what I have seen so far, the manufacturers use the track during the week and a few hours in the evening are used as 'public days', and of course, then there are the weekends
