In light of the current attempt at a quick lap of the above, I thought that it might be fun to guess the best time that the Ultima might acheive round a 14+ mile long track that has 157 turns:

I hope that it is faster but that is what my gut is telling me, ( apart from the fact that it wants more food but that is somewhat of a steady state I am afraid
), so come on, let's be 'avin yer, post your best guess.
Although this is not an official competition, I am sure that come the FoD, there will be an extra round of sandwiches and a re-fill of ginger beer for the closest guess, ( I may even be persuaded to arrange one of my good ladies famed lemon cakes, Mr. Kippling would not even get a look in, ask Clive ).

I'm with Deadscoob. Unless the car was driven by someone with 'real' knowledge then beating 8 mins would be bloody good. To really go for the record without a proper hand may even be foolish. I mean, they even had a proper 'Stig' drive the car for the pokey little Top Gear lap so to attempt the 'Ring............

Seems like Richard and the guys at the factory wouldn't even attempt it, IF they didn't think they were going to break the record...Besides, they've broken every other record they've attempted. So this probably wasn't a last minute, whimsical decision...If the Top Gear record was any indication, beating a Pagani et al by 4 seconds +, you'd think that at a 14 mile track they'd beat the record by 20+ seconds...We'll see...

The Factory wouldn't be there unless it is going to be something very special. At risk of ridicule, I'll say 6:49.
Let's hope they have the right gearbox on there - 200mph on a G50 won't cut the mustard. They should vmax it on the long straight towards the end. Stig, make sure you get the vmax figure !

There seems to be a bit of variation on how the lap is measured.
However on a like for like basis I know a well set up Ultima (with much less BHP than the factory car) is faster than an Ariel Atom.
I would therefore be disappointed if they do not shave 4/5 seconds off a lap but will guess they can take 10 seconds off giving a time of 6'43.

You're all under-estimating just how difficult it is to do a sub 7:30min at the Ring. Unless they have a Ring specialist driver they are unlikely to even break 7min30s. It's not like cruising around the TopGear track, get it wrong there and there is lots of hard scenery to hit. If the driver has no track knowledge he'll either be mad or have a death wish to push for a sub 7min lap. I'll be amazed if the Ultima can beat the time set in a Carrera GT by Walter Rohrl 7min28s. Good luck to them for trying but why the secrecy? Also depends where the time is being measured from. Bridge to Gantry is the TopGear and Touristefahrten recognised method because you can't complete a full lap on a Tourist day. A full lap adds around 20-25 secs onto the B to G times. The record times have been set on full laps.

Take a look at the Radical SR8 record lap at 6min55s and then tell me you can see an Ultima doing a sub 7min lap.

That factory car has a power to weight ratio around 650bhp per ton, thats 120 more than a Veyron. DOnt forget also that that Atom may have had 500 bhp, but the gearing is as important, and I doubt that it had optimum ratios suitible for the ring. On the long straights the Ultima should leave it for dead, and on the twisties as Chewy said, it should really be able to motor. - Guess we will soon know, but if they dont have a capable driver , I doubt they would be attempting it.
