Symptom: Not being able to drive with confidence over bumpy road surfaces without 110% concentration to keep the thing in a straight line.
Cure: Slotting the steering rack mount holes (normally downwards) and adjusting both left and right hand heights until the the effect of a bump to the direction that that wheel faces is reduced to a minimum, for your chosen ride height.
I think (but am glad to be proven wrong) that the Factory have sent the instuctions on how to improve bump steer to some folk.
Try them and let us know. We could stick in in the Factory Upgrades section.
Charles did mine and after mistaking tramlining for bumpsteer, can declare that it very much reduced (I can't say irradicated).

You remove the springs and then move the suspension through the full range of travel from full droop to full bump by jacking the car up and down. At the same time you have a vertical board by the wheel which allows you to measure the gap between wheel and board as the car moves up and down. Dialling out the bump is done by shimming or lowering the rack. If your springs are fairly stiff you could adjust the ride height so the track control arms are just below horizontal.
That said, I did all this on another car which wasn't an ultima but the principle's the same.

I had Powerstation do the bump steer on the 22B Scooby and the improvement was quite superb.
Prior to the mod down country lanes the 22B was a foul handling pig - even worse than the Ultima
Going to get the bump steer and a full 720 type setup and hopefully that will get rid of those scary direction change moments
