Toyo 888 v. Michelin Pilot Sport 2

Need some advise please.

I am looking to change tyres and need something for both road and track use.

I understand that Toyo's are great in the dry but not very good in the wet - is this the case?

Michelin's are good in both wet and dry but tend to wear on the outer edge as the tyre walls are quite soft - anyone experienced this?

Not considering Kumo's as they do not have rim protectors so the wheel rim sticks out.

Need to order a set, so any advise would be appreciated.

Well Im running the new R888 on mine (fitting is in 2 weeks) - the fronts have to be 255 as they dont make a 245 yet
I believe these are fantastic rain or dry so I guess it depends who you talk to.
One thing that makes these a great buy, is the rears retail at under £300 a tyre, and the fronts at around £180, so you will pay a lot more for Michelins and Goodyears.
Goodyears were £760 for a pair of rears last year when I bought some and I will have a brand new set of these rear F1 eagles for sale as a result (looking for £500) - just kept wrapped up in my shed since I got them...

I was going to fit R888 but the problem is the front tyre. The 255 has a greater radius and a local Ultima owner to me tried them but they rub too much on the bodywork! I went for the Michelin PS2 and am glad I did. Compared to the Fiorano the PS2s have transformed the car. The tramlining has all but gone. The R888 is a great tyre but I will wait to see if they do a 245 in the future.

Some have run greater widths than 255, but 255 is possible with either a shim on the steering, or slight remedial work on the arches.
We will see how they fare soon eh Peter....

I too was keen to try 888's on the GTW but at the risk of spending more than on a set of Khumo's and with the feedback we have had so far regarding V70's, I have decided to let someone else be the guinea pig but am interested to see what the findings might be.

If they fit?? I would go for the 888. The 888 i had on my v8 westie were awesome a bit dicey in the rain but incredible in the dry. The 888 have very square and stiff tyre walls and the 255 i saw at my local tyre shop looked huge.

You should see the 335s then

the Joss, (www.joss.com.au) was running toyos at the melbourne f1 gp event. i beleive the prototype is is based on the ultima chassis. hi may be able to coment on the grip, but not the body work clearance issues.

Interesting, as Toyo dont give a massive amount off to the trade. 335 x35 x 18 are normally around £300 each to buy - I would be very suprised if you could buy a set for an Ultima anywhere near £600.
