LuckyP Retains His Fighting Torque Crown
Discussion
LuckyP is pleased to announce that today he defended his Fighting Torque Production Car Crown from stiff opposition!!
He also is hereby retiring X8GTR from all competitive speed events.....(quit whilst ahead!!)
The car and engine peformed brilliantly, the engine is perfectly suited to the G50 03 std ratios but these are NOT great for this type of event. I was buzzing the 7300 (authorised by Charles) chip at 176mph 6/8th mile and had to sit there for a couple of second until the 7/8th marker (event distance was cut short by a hungry rabbit!!)
The strains on engine, clutch and box of dragging are just too much so I'm calling time. Leave it to the Pork and the Jap boys. It's time to stick 6800 chip back in and get on track.
So beaten into third overall by a monster parachute Skyline and a nutty 800bhp LS6 Granada!!
Time for 7/8th mile 24.67s @176.10mph
Thanks to Gail of American Speed and Charles Dunn Engineering for building a monster engine. Anthony of Phormula.co.uk for setting up the knock sensor. BLKROKT for the comany on the way there and back and the Factory for telling me that the std G50 03 ratios are best!!
A few shots for the lads

Lucky out.

Congrats Pete
Just hope they run it next year when my beast will be running a little quieter!

SHHHUUUSSHHHH.....don't tell anyone. No noise test.Just hope they run it next year when my beast will be running a little quieter!

I think they were going to have a quiet word with any offenders, if you know what I mean.
Good luck. Just get the 200mph gearing you'll need.....unless you already have?

What the hell happened to Wilder and Doctor Dee's 650 hp then?
Couple of things actually - we got the engine installed at 5 pm Saturday with NO running at all prior to unloading off the trailer on the day . We had no set up time at all - not even to check the carb/ timing, let alone change anything -it was exactly as it came out of the crate -which I wasnt happy about -but if we were to run, we had no choice.we also had the stock chip in, which was 500 rpm less than peak power -again, too late to change it as we found out Friday night.
Poor Neil who drove the car could not get the thing off the line, again I think it was due to timing/setup issues that was causing it to bog down on the line. We clocked a late (solo) run with the camera man in the car of 185 mph in the one and only run I did after the presentations were made.(adjustable MSD box was fitted, but in the rush we forgot to tweak that till it was all finished!)
All in all we were beaten by time, but the lads did a great job to get it installed as it only arrived in the county on Tuesday night.

I guess time was the enemy Wilder. You did extremely well to get the car there at all.
Think yourself lucky your crate engine had at least been run on a dyno for a day. Mine was just bolted together in the workshop, and straight into the car!!! (did get a chance to swing the dizzy though).
Exellent day BTW. Thanks for all the organising. It takes alot behind the scenes that no-one sees.
Oh - any idea what the prize is that Colin will be sending?

Congrats Pete, your car is a fooking ANIMAL! The torque that thing has from low rpm is amazing, and nothing can touch you in 1st 2nd or 3rd. Good thing you're retiring, you know, to give someone else a chance to win a prize one of these years...
Although the FT definition of "production car" would be interesting to see...

Shame I missed it and hopefully this could be done at a closer Bruntingthorpe.
Wilder- why did you not drive the car yourself-Vmaxing is one of the best parts of driving the ultima as it makes you question if you did all the bolts up tight at 170mph!?
We had all the bolts checked and tightened, but that doesnt take long. There was simply no time to do anything with setup of any kind as we finished at 5 pm, and its a 5 hr journey down there the night before.Wilder- why did you not drive the car yourself-Vmaxing is one of the best parts of driving the ultima as it makes you question if you did all the bolts up tight at 170mph!?
The car was very very slow, and we need to find out why.
It also has super light con rods/crankshaft and 11 lbs aluminium flywheel, so something is radically out, we just need to find out what else besides timing was way off. The thing was showing round 640 bhp before it went in the crate, but was not even close to where it should have been on the day.
