Fuel Smell in GTR
Discussion
Hey I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. When I fill the tanks full I get a fuel smell until the gauge shows about 3/4 full. I think what is happening is that the fuel comes up the filler tank and out the breather hole in the rubber and down the drain tube.
If someone has an easy or obvious fix I would love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Paul

The easiest and obvious solution is to only 3/4 fill the tanks
(someone had to say that!)
or.... you could fit an EVAP system.....an evaporative emissions filter.... I have one on mine.
The LS has has this built into the ECU.... with a pressure switch... and a purge valuve.
Here's a crude sketch.
When running, excess pressure triggers the purge valve and the vacuum pulls the fumes into the intet.
When the car is sitting, the tanks vent to the atmosphere through the charcoal.

I have the same problem that I spoke to the Factory about. As this started to occur some 3 years of use I assumed that I had developed a tank leak, then it occurred to me (after being reminded by the Factory guy) that I had adjusted the lengths of the breather tubes so that they no longer went below the chassis line under the car over winter! This now suggests that any fuel/vapour is being held in the engine bay and making its way into the cockpit area, you don't need much to give a strong smell either. Just to bring it home further when I brimmed a tank I then found a pool of fuel that had been spat out (due to expansion) onto my ally panel, as I have panelled the bottom of the engine bay and the breather was not lining up with the hole that it used to poke through!
I have yet to confirm this, by adding a bit to each tube, but it makes sence.
