Drive Shafts and stubs GTR
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I wondered if any of you out there knew if the Shafts and stubs come off anything standard?
The reason... Well this appears to be one slightly weak link in the drive-train especially for those with over 400bhp, which I guess is the majority!
The dilemma is to either pay huge bucks for the Ultimate unbreakable equive from Mr Schwartz,
.... or go standard....
.... and replace if necessary.... erk!. (just hope if it did fail, the shafts wouldn't come adrift and 'flail' around the engine compartment doing untold extra damage!)
Is the factory price about right for a pair, or can they be got at a better price?
...or are there other options?
Opinions please!
cheers

Forgive me if I'm wrong (probably), but I thought the GKN ones supplied by the factory were rated to 1000hp?
1000Hp and 40 nm
I have had no problems at all with the driveshafts but broken 4 or 5 stub axles. I guess they are the weakest link. All of them have been broken during take off or tight bend in first gear.
so....
the weak link is the stubs then?
Where can we get stronger ones?
I know jeff has them, but at a hell of a price... perhaps justifiably so, but I do need to try to keep costs down within reason!
So are the drive shafts std Porsche... or a modified version by GKN? if so which model?
cheers

They are produced by GKN for the factory so I doubt there will be a model/part number and GKN will not supply you direct.I don't know of very many breaking and have no idea what GTRTT is doing to his to break 5.
Steve
If you want to go down a different route these people do half shafts (with GKN ends)

No abuse just ordinaty use. two times just turned and pressed the throttle. two times dumped the clutch a bit to quick, snapped right off. I guess tripple plate clutc and hard diff "helps". Steve
So did you do anything about this ie either complain or change..........
....... or just shrugged your shoulders and got another pair from the factory?

I buy them in bulk from the junk yard 25£ each (can't get new ones from ford anymore) I have four spares with me when I go to the track. Takes around 10 minutes to change. So did you do anything about this ie either complain or change..........

A swedish company will have new super strong ones built for me and Jon during the winter.
