New Owner Questions
Discussion
I recently became the proud owner of a 2004 CanAm (factory verified as 1st in the USA) originally built by Brammo Motorsports. I took delivery just over a week ago and went playing all weekend at the local track. The car far exceeded my expectations in quality and performance (and most everyone else's at the SCCA track event!).
There were some items that cropped up over course of the weekend;
1. The cable shifter appears to not be set optimally and has quite different feel whether the car is hot or cold. I don't see any previous posts with them being an issue, so are they good once you get them set up right and is it a case of tinkering until I hit the sweet spot?
2. The car is set up with a Powerhaus II G50/52 with transaxle oil cooler, however I'm reading temps of 250F on track after a few hard laps. Is that a 'normal' operating temperature? One of the guys at the track was suggesting the Porsche racers run heavier weight oil to compensate for heat?
3. On the above how would one know what quantity to fill the system, I assume an additional quantity for lines and cooler is required?
4. Are the gas tanks baffled from factory? At 3/8 tank on the tight corners I was getting some fuel starvation, is that common?
5. Coilover springs are stamped 180-110, is that factory spec? I woudl ahev though something stiffer would be in order. Who is using what?
Thanks for any and all help,
Julian

The gearbox must have the thick stile oil Porsche recommend as once inverted with out it the oil does get to the ring gear contact point as well....because that point is no longer below the level of the oil. I would suggest a Oil cooler on any Porsche box that's inverted and does track days.....
3.5 Litres I think was the amount but check with the normal amount for your specific box...
No the Fuel tanks only have foam in them which is a kind of baffle but not good enough for low level fuel while tracking... you need both tanks pumping at the same time to try and help with this so one might be in air the other will be ok... Do you have FI or Carb ?? how many fuel pumps and do you have a Balance line between the tanks ??
PS Welcome...
PPS don't be fooled by my name I live in Alberta now...

Hi Clive,
Thanks for the input, I have a custom Kinsler EFI setup. I haven't delved into the FI setup but would assume it is a single pump with balance lines (by the way both tanks maintain a similar level)
I think I read some of you posts on the US site with regard to emigrating? Did you manage to get a GTR into Canada?
I'm a Brit and landed immigrant in Canada working in the US. (Confused yet?) I travel up to Calgary regularly on business in fact I was supposed to move there last year, but got a stay for another year or two. Hence the reason I ask if I might get the Ultima cross border later, I had always assumed not.
