Rear diffuser & front splitters

Just had the rear undertrayed & fitted with a very nice difuser by Phoenix Motorsport of Accrington Lancs .(01254 384071).
They do a lot of work on the Lotus cars, and have a history of F3000 / F3 & F1 work.
Im very pleased with the results, and cant wait to see the effect on a track.
They also did the front splitter & struts (which is in two parts).
These guys have also worked on Chewys Ultima.
If anyone wants any work doing on their Ultima in the North West, I can heartily recommend Ollie & Gregg to do the necessary.

Yes Guy it opens to the same degree as the struts normally allow.
I spoke to Ollie at Phoenix who said that theres two ways the undertray can be made.
One is for a wet sump, and the second is for a dry sump.
The dry sump allows the sump guard cross member to be reset in line with the chassis, which allows a totally flat floor (and smoother airflow) from the bulkhead backwards.
The other option for a wet sump system would require the undertray to start past that sump guard point.
As to prices, he said ring him & have a chat.
These guys are straight forward racing guys who dont charge a lot of money for custom jobs, which is pretty rare these days.They have a machine shop in the back where they cut & made the diffuser from scratch.
Give them a call ,you may be suprised at the cost compared to anyone else able to do this sort of job. Chewy can vouch for their work as he recommended them to me.

Yes indeed. The picture doesnt really do it justice (better ones to follow). I have noticed no difference on the temp guage since it was fitted, and it does keep the engine bay clean!
I believe that if you use it on a track, it should make a significant contribution to improving lap times.

Apparantly not so. Ollie says as long as the car is flat floored the air going through will have an effect.(he has made & fitted these to the Lotus cup cars). I know the Corsa VXR and the Clio (with much higher ride heights) are fitted with a difuser as standard.
It would be unlikely these car companies would go to such expense if the difuser didnt have much of an effect.

These guys are very helpful and will take the time to work out what your looking for from the car - they wont just sell you something you dont need or want, which I liked.
I checked the ride height of some of the Lotus cars in Ollies workshop, and they were certainly no lower than the Ultima. Some of these were fitted with the difuser, so I guess there must be a tangible effect. These guys also do a great suspension setup by the way ( just watch Chewys videos on PH tv!)

How long did they take to do your work, end-to-end?
Problem I am having is just that!....couple of specialists I have taken on are just taking an age to get the work done.
3 months from one with v little to show!
Its not so you can find good alternatives easily and swap, cos I would in a heatbeat....so frustrating!

Hi KIeth, Ollie made the difuser splitter & undertray inside a couple of days -fitting & some other jobs - total was about a week for everything. How long did they take to do your work, end-to-end?

They also made the rear wing struts & adjusters (so the wing angle can be changed).
If anyones interested I can take some pics of the wing supports as they fixed the wing to car in a very interesting way. This should cause less stress on the clam when running higher wing angles.

Speaking of ride hight, flat floors, diffusers and splitters, anyone thought about the fact that LMP cars getting airborn? Is this something we should think about, I mean the Ultimas have power to go as fast as the LMP and therefor should we be concerned?
Seeing how much engineering goes into a LMP1 car and it stilll happens, I have lately found myself thinking about this when working with new spitters and diffusers, that are compared to LMPs full garage hobby projects..
