If anyone is about tomorrow and weighs less than, say 5 stone, I'll gladly take 'em for a few laps of Brands in the Ult.

Come and say hello. byebye

PS. I was joking about the 5st bit. I'll allow 6!!

Yep. All good. Rather too many cars there for an open pitlane. Very busy with a wide spectrum of cars from a Seat people carrier - to a very fast GT3 Cup car with a 40' Artic in support!! I still maintain the best bit about the Ult is that you can turn (under your own power) fiddle with the damper settings, adjust the tyre pressures and you're hot to trot!!

Some good dicing with a Radical and a bonkers Dax. The GT3 Cup was out there in a class of it's own.

The ult faired well as usual. Got some great sound clips that Adrian recorded. Might try to get a ring tone sported if anyone is interested?

Here's some pics:

Just beautiful......

Charles Dunn Jnr - Gavin's slicked up beemer, kept me honest on the bends:

And the Ult...

(note the concentricity of the pipes - or not. More to follow on that one furious)

Thanks to Adrian, Wayne and Stuart for their moral support. Wayne's battle with his track toy didn't pan out - but it's be there soon thumbup

An yes, some pretty tasty Vid to come - GTR v Radical v Dax

Trouble is, and Wayne picked up on this today, I seem to be getting a bit bored now. I didn't have the excitement that I had in the first few outtings last year. Dunno. Maybe time for a change?

Lucks.

It's time you got a competition licence and sprinted your car - ask Paul Haimes about the track at MIRA - it would be perfect for your Ultima !!

There are also sprint meetings at Silverstone, Brands and a few other tracks.

Go on - you know it makes sense...

Kelvin

I think when you've got a very quick road car, trackdays do eventually become boring, unless you live next to the Nurburgring.

Something competitive is the natural progression.

I have to agree on that one! I was nearly tempted to enter the Tiger one make series a couple of years ago. It is not just ££££'s but time too. To do a race weekend required a friday off work as well as the saturday practice & sunday race.
Sprinting only gives very limited track time, maybe 6 - 9 laps including timed runs for a whole day at the circuit!

That's what my mates used to say to a buddy who hill climbs. He has about 3 mins of track time the whole weekend!

hillclimbing and drag racings all the same , the more money you spend, the faster you go, the less time you are on the track...i know i did 10 years of it..

unless you are committed, you will get bored of hillclimbing and sprinting as you spend most of the weekend standing arround and get next to no time playing... if you want some fun rather than do track days, with road cars, go to practise days with proper race cars, that way you dont have all the expense of full race weekends and some idiots smashing into the side of you making a lst ditch attempt on the last corner. You also get some proper track time to see what your car is cappable of and how fast it is compared to??????

Either way im affraid all forms of motorsport are expensive... i won 2 british championships(drag racing) and was sponsored by the likes of Pirelli Tyres, Frank Thomas clothing, Kendal Oils, etc etc and i still gave up due to costs....If you own a business then you can claim some of the expenses back in the form of advertising which will help....Good luck though and dont let my thoughts stop you having ago if you can afford it...be nice to see an Ultima racing..

There you have it, go to the Nurburgring, it will change your view on driving. You missed out this year, but listen to Wayne and let him convert you, and then baptise you into the only true church, that is the Ring. And you don't have to move to the ring necessarily but if you do, let me know so that we can come and stay smile

Whoah there boys. I'll stop this right here before you enter me in some kinda door handle to door handle race series.

I was meaning I was more bored with my level of attainment through the few track days I've done over the passed two years. At the start I was making progress hand over fist with fast fix things changing gear after taking your speed off and understanding the line of a corner. Then there was another step change with Master Edwards and the Rob Gravett Ultimate driving day, where as if by magic, I suddenly got the fact that you can turn the car harder and faster when the nose is planted to the ground - ie. under hard braking (OK, so a smidge after). Once I swept clear the school boy errors it got a whole lot more difficult. I now find myself trapped between wanting to improve my driving given the level of understanding I have now (not high but enough to get along) and the level of commitment on track I'm willing to take the car to - high enough to break traction on high speed corners and lockups into tight bends. I would argue that this is the difference between 8/10 driving and 10/10ths.

I'm not so sure that me driving at 8/10th at a trackday will ever see me improve much more. But the financial and emotional tie I have to the car stops me from taking it to the next level. The level of commitment that I need to improve.

Geddit?

I'm toying with the idea of a mid engine £5K toy that I can take to 10/10ths and then transfer those skills to the Ult... MR2??

I dunno..

be care full of Mr2... (i had an MR2 turbo which if you do get one i can tell you a wicked tuning mod worth about 50-70 hp and involves the cost of a ball bearing................)

anyway sorry back to mr2.. great car but boy oh boy when the back end goes she goes big style... i had 2 of them, and both tiime i let someone else drive them they thought they could tail slide it and hit a curb and broke it.. if you can mast the tail slides , which are very hard as it grips and grips and grips and then without warning its gone then, wow what a car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. and dead cheap too!!!!!!!!....if you are spending 5k you might as well go and get a cheap westfield...........rear wheel drive, light, ok not mid engined by dead easy to control and massive fun...

We had a Caterham for about 6 months. Just didn't get it. Raw yes, but cramped and impractical. Reminded me of pushing a shopping trolley around (the fact that you sit over the rear and the bonnet moves around infront!!)

I think I'll just fark about in Lou's Porsche that is certainly a challenge to drive fast on track.

A porsche is supposed to be quite a challenge to tail slide?? or r they. Ive never been in a position to play with porsches or ultimas due to lack of funds due to the stupidity of not studying when i should and getting a job early rather than educate some more.....and now a divorce and redundancy!!!!!

One day ill get the ultima, but for now just keep on racking up the ideas and collecting some bits and photos.... If you are ever track daying up Oulton Park way and want a passenger again, give me a shout, id love to go round in anger....dom

Lou'd Porker is an old 964. Not fast enough to get yerself in trouble, and quite easy to play with (not hold a slide though, just get it back from the brink). So at 12K it's just within the 91/2/10ths league on track!!

If I'm ever about that way, then yes, a PX ride no probs.

Might be heading to Donnington next month. To stretch the ole girl's legs!!
