VDO Speedo problem

My VDO speedo has become very erratic, the speed reading keeps jumping all over the place.

I am assuming it is the sender but before i order a new one is there anything else that could cause this problem?

The gap between sender and disc is critical. I don't use one so you will have to get the measurement from elsewhere. I suspect it will be down around 1 or 1.5mm.

I have tried several different gaps and even cleaned the sensor face - did not make any difference.

I had the same problem a few years back.

In fact, if you watch the speedo in this vid, you can see it dancing all over the shop.

Just changed the sensor for a new one and it worked a treat.
