The latest all alloy Chevy Small Block LS1 has been stretched to 427 cubes for the C5R and makes 650bhp(can be bought as a long engine direct from GM) but other aftermarket builders have taken it out to 450 ci (approx 7.4 litres)
But you can get Big Blocks made of aluminium from a variety of builders, which goes some way to offsetting the weight disadvantage over a small block.
A big block of a given displacement when measured against a bored & stroked small block of the same capacity shows better power and torque due to the larger heads / valve size / heat dissipation. This is why they can be a better choice, depending on the application of course.
Anyway I was just wondering who had the biggest capacity V8 in an Ultima.
So who has the most powerful? GTR-TT sounds like you may be up for that honour!

I have one of these 454 on my GTR. ¡¡ Terrific !!
What sort of torque are typical of big block engines? After all, Ultimas have a very special torque limiting device mounted behind the engine...the gearbox!!
I agree with Steve D, Im planning to build an engine which sacrifices some bottom end torque for top end power...a 9000 rpm rev limit should help a little!
It should produce around 550 fl/lbs of torque and I think 600 ponies should be more than enough (well at least for me)
The biggest problem everyone will face is traction. This will be the greatest equiliser meaning there would by very little difference in performance between 600 hp and 1000 hp, at least at sane speeds anyway.
